    potato help please

    what is better for you a red skinned potato skin on, or a plain sweet potato? Can anyone give me a pro/cons to both please. I avoid the plain white paked potato with the brown skin. Thanks!

    By far a sweet potato is healthier. It's high in fiber, slow burning (IOW - slow insulin release) and provides many more nutrients than any other potato. However, if you are bulking, I think red potatos are fine. Not as healthy and faster burning but perfectly fine IMO!

    Other info...red potatos have a bit lower GI than traditional "Russet" potatos...but seet potatos are superior as Jodi said.

    If you boil your potatos...the red varieties are recommended in terms of cooking.

    I microwave the potato. no matter what type I eat. Its quick and easy. I would think this would retain more of the nutrients too verse boiling

    Anytime you microwave you destroy nutrients I believe.

    Bake the potatoes. They come out the tastiest.

    I hate nuked potatoes

    in the morning when I am getting ready for work I can choose the 8-10 minute nuke, or 50-60 min bake. Usually I pic the less time consuming one, but if you think I am killing the nutrients in the food then I will find a way to make time to bake instead. A microwaved potato isn't so dry and tasteless if you consider its usually being served with a boiled chicken breast. Now thats icky

    Bake them in bunches, Trojan. I do them at the same time as my chickentit, about twice a week; 425 degree oven, large Pyrex of dismembered bird bits laid out side by side, large Pyrex of scrubbed Ipomoca batata specimens beside it. 35-40 minutes, the chicken is usually done; the sweet potatoes can take up to twenty minutes longer depending on size.

    Remove from oven, cool a few minutes, pack into containers and refrigerate. If you prefer them peeled, they can be easily peeled once cooked, too.

    How long is a cooked chicken tit and potato good for in the fridge? I noticed that even after a couple days the chicken gets a fart smell to it. That doesn't make me hungry when I open the container and its like my chicken tit broke wind in my face. lol

    According to food safety guidelines, cooked chicken is fine in the fridge for four days.

    It does get that smell, but that happens pretty much as soon as it gets cold. I find the best way round that is either to nuke the chicken for a minute or so before I eat it, just enough to take the chill off it, or use lots of salsa (or other seasoning). Frankly, fussy though I am about my food, taking time every freaking day to cook chicken breast and potato and grains is not an option.

    will a cooked potato last 3 days too?, what about cooked brown rice? If so I will start making my food for 3 days. 4 seems to be pushing it in my head

    Yes...the potato will last 3 days...but based on info received from the dietician at my school of nursing....it's perfectly fine to microwave your potato.

    Awesome!!..I really didn't want to start baking my food. That is so much more time, and we all know there is not enough of that in a day. I think starting tonight I am going to cook food for 3 days. This will also make staying on my diet easier too. Matter of fact the weekends are the hardest for me to get up and cook since I have no set routine for the weekend. I am going to cook enough friday morning to last the whole weekend.
