It's my understanding that too much water while eating dilutes the natural digestive enzymes in your body which in turn doesn't allow for natural digestion.
After doing some research , I only became more confused. For every person that says to drink your water in between meals because drinking water during meals hinders digestion , another person says that thats just bs and that its only a matter of preference.
If this is the case , what are the best times to consume water?
Can someone clear this up please?

chewing your food and by drinking liquids(water, soda, alcohol, etc) while eating, dilutes the stomach acids & the digestive juices. Chronic stress also weaken our ability to digest foods thoroughly.
Foods that can specifically help with digestion are things that improve circulation to the stomach and the intestinal system. Chili peppers, black pepper and cayenne peppers create amazing heat when you take a bite. The same thing happens in the stomach and intestine. They have a stimulating effect and it improves circulation to the stomach and intestinal system, and you improve the digestive juices that you secrete.” Garlic is also good to improve circulation. Two of the best sources of the nutrient glutamine, which also aids digestion, are cabbage and Brussels sprouts

Seing I eat every 3 hours , I try to drink my water in between , so I wait 1 hour after eating , then I drink about 2 cups of water during the next 45-60 minutes , and 1 hour later I eat my other meal. Is there anything I need to change in that?
I still drink water while I eat but I just sip it instead of chugging a whole glass.

I pretty much do the same thing. I drink enough water to get down the meal...Originally posted by Jodi

Ever since I was a little kid I have always eaten all of my food first before drinking my drink. I don't even sip my milk when I eat PB. I always drink 2 glasses of water almost immediately after finishing a meal. Although it my not be optimal, I have never had digestion problems.

Ok so basicly it does not matter when you drink the water as long as you sip it instead of downing it ?
I asked a friend of mine who is a certified trainer/nutritionist what she thought of this and here is what she said. Hope it helps.
The reply:It's my understanding too much water while eating dilutes the natural digestive enzymes in your body which in turn doesn't allow for natural digestion.
... actually, it does NOT dilute the digestive juices. However, what it does is it forces your CNS (central nervous system) and all of your organs that process what you're eating to slow down the digestion process because the organs/CNS are also having to allocate where the water goes. If you have an active system (which, if you're weight training, you do!), then you won't have as much of a problem as say, someone with a sedative lifestyle or an elderly person. If you DO eat your meal without fluids, it's true that your body will process it faster because it's in its natural state and your body doesn't have to separate factors out. Does that make sense? Crazy, I know, and the above statement wasn't correct ... but eating a meal without drinking water can sometimes help your digestive system to more quickly process everything. If you do that, just drink a full glass 5-10 minutes after you've finished eating and you'll be set to go.

now im drinking about 2-2.5 cups of water 5-15 minutes after i finnish my meal ( taking sips) , just wanted to know if 2 cups is too much to consume at that time?
One should avoid drinking water while eating food, as digestion of the food is likely to be adversely affected. Water also dilutes the digestive juices in the stomach, thus leading to indigestion. It is desirable that you drink water on empty stomach or three hours after food or one to one and half-hours before food.
Then what can you drink while your eating, I just usually drink water whenever I want to- eating or not??![]()
Only time will tell if it was time well spent!
I do too but I try to not drink much while eating.

I find it a pain in the ass trying to meet my water requirements between meals. It means that I'm constantly drinking. It was much easier when I just chugged a liter and a half after every meal.
Peace.
