Well, your diet IMO is no less important than your workout routine
Its important to get a proper macro to achieve your goals... and to get those calories from as healthy a source as possible. Of course when you're bulking and if you dont care about the bf% skyrocketing you can have some ice cream now and then.
Regardless, you're going to want a high amount of proteins in your diet... then jsut adjust the fats and carbs for bulking or cutting.

You still need to be eating quality foods, in the right amounts.
Exactly!
Eating 3000 cals of quality food or eating 3000 cals of junk is not the same. Your end result with quality foods is LBM, your end result with junk will probably be muscle but with alot of fat covering it.

Diet is extremely important. To gain beyond simple beginner gains, lots of quality food must be ingested. Eating right is harder than working out in my opinion.
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...
You won't gain a thing if your diet isn't in order!

Diet is more important than anything. You are what you eat, after all. I think beyond the cosmetic goals as far as diet is concerned, it's what fuels me for endeavours that goes beyond my muscle-building efforts. Processed crap leaves me feeling fatigued and groggy, which serves no pragmatic purpose whatsoever.
If newbies focused more on diet and less on supplements and even training, they would get much further. I am not saying that how you train is not important, newbies just get too wrapped up in the "perfect routine" and crap like that.
Use compound, free weight movements, train with good form, lift moderate to heavy in the 4-10 rep range, do not over train, and you'll be fine.
Eat right (quality, clean foods, adequate protein & calories, complex carbs and quality fats) lift weights, get aqequate rest, focus on a few supps like a multi-vitamin and maybe a protein powder, and you will make gains beyond what you thought were possible.
To me it seems like while diet has to be impecable, training is equally important.
example-- My past bulk cycle had THE best nutrition, 8 meals, all the qualtiy foods you can imagine. But I wasnt being stimulated by my workout, the variations just werent shocking my body, and b/c of that I gained a lb a week for 10 weeks--10 lbs---of solid fat.
