    Soy for protien

    Hi all,

Would soy be considered a good source of protien? In the part of the world I live in, I do not have access to to a lot of supplements. The ones I can buy are through the roof as far as price is concerned. I'm about to start clucking from egg whites and swimming from Tuna. I was in the store the other day and picked up a pack of soy "meat". It's the kind you soak in water and then cook. On the pack it says taht a 100g serving has 52g of protien, 17.6g carb and 1g of fat. Is this inferior to other sources of protien. I would love to add this to the sources of protien I am already using. It is sold everywhere and not expensive. Can anyone comment on this.

    Thanks
    Mervin

If your a guy, I wouldnt use it. However, this has been debated to death, and im sure others will chime in.

The reason I would not use it... Estrogenic Properties.

I would avoid soy protein as a regular source of protein because of the reason that Premier mentioned. However, I do like to have a soy product now and again. Some of them can be pretty darned tastey. It's also nice to have another protein source that doesn't have cholesterol. I think the occasional ingestion of soy isn't going to kill you.
