Question Problems with eating in the AM?

I have stomach pains when I wake up. I feel like I am hungry but at the same time I don't want to eat.

It used to not be so bad but that was 7 years ago. I was living at home then and ate before school. I can't remember when I started having these problems exactly but schedule changed around then.

I work 2nd shift so I go to bed pretty late. When I get up earlier than I am used to, it is even worse.

I find it hard to get the calories I need, when I can't get in a good breakfast. Anybody else have this problem?

Lam, that is what I have been doing. Oatmeal and protein. But I still can't make myself eat as much as I would like.

I use to have that problem, I couldn't eat anything in the AM. I started with a shake and cooked oatmeal but couldn't even eat that. Then I just blended EVERYTHING and drank it. This eventually got me use to eating in the morning and little by little I uped my cals at breakfast.

I just started to force down breakfast at some point. I wasn't used to eating it, but I knew that I needed to. Eventually I got used to it and it's no longer a problem. As well, once I started to up my metabolism through increased muscle mass and activity I started to get really hungry first thing in the morning.

Good point cowpimp. Once your metabolism starts moving and you start gaining some muscle mass those few hours you go while sleeping without food make you wakeup starving. I couldn't imagine missing my huge breakfast anymore....I'd go nuts.

I hate eating in the morning.
I try to solve that by drinking plenty of water first thing in the morning.

Not eating in the morning is terrible for muscle gains Vieope.

Lam, I am on AAS cycle so I am definately trying to bulk. My weight gains hit a wall a week ago and I am trying to overcome that, starting with breakfast.

Just up your cals gradually. Once you start eating more and your metabolism kicks into overdrive you will start to get hungry after 6-8 hours of not eating (sleep). But don't just stick to the same breakfast, if you can't eat much oatmeal and eggs try some chicken breast and rice. Just get something in your stomach for now and you will get use to eating in the early AM. I use to have that problem with oatmeal so I started eating my brown rice in the morning and leaving my oats for my evening meal so Iwould stay satisfied. Worked for me b/c Ican eat alot more rice then I can oatmeal. Give it a try.

if you don't feel like eating than just have a PWO type shake first thing in the am. a nice insulin spike first thing in the am followed up with a whole meal an hour later is a great way to get the body in a anabolic state...

the addition of 50-100 mg/wk of EQ will help with your appetite...

Deadbolt, once I am awake and over the morning junk, I eat every 3-4 hours. I can be hungry in as little as 1 hour after a big meal sometimes too. Plus, my mind won't let me eat non-breakfast foods for my first meal. I have to have the traditional stuff.

LAM, what is a PWO shake?

I take it you are taking in eggs for protein w/ your oatmeal. Is the oatmeal to much for you to handle rite now? You could try a little whole grain bread for cards b/c you can ussually eat more of that then oatmeal. Or just blend up the raw oats, whey, lil ice, pb, lil fruit and now you have an entire breakfast that is very simple to eat.

I never really had a problem eating my non breakfast foods in the AM, maybe it just takes people some time to work into it. Not sure how to help ya there heh sorry.

PWO shake is simply whey, water, and maybe oats.

People make fun of me at work because I eat chicken, rice and broccoli in the morning for breakfast at 7:30am. I'm starving and then I can't wait for break and lunch.

dg806 I do the same. I use to eat that in school every day at 7am then 10am then 1pm. I would just break out my container and fork in class and go for it. People use to wonder why I could eat stuff like that so early and I would simply reply....I no longer live by the day and night schedual, my days never end I just get a 8 hour break every day for rest so there is no breakfast, lunch, or dinner for me its just meal 1,2,3,4,5, & 6.

No, I take whey and oatmeal. And it isn't the healthy oats you guys eat. I have tried them and I have to put so much sugar and cinnamon in them it is terrible. I eat the little packets that have the flavored oats in them.

And Dg, nearly every day, I have people commenting on the quantity of food I consume. Not much to me but I guess it seems like it when I am in the break room every 3 hours. I feel your pain

If you can't stand the old fashion oats try what I use to do. Go get some of the atkins pancake syrup or different flavored coffee syrups and add that to the oats with a few packets of splenda. It makes it plenty sweet and if you need to add some other texture throw in some diced apple, raisins, or bannana. Those are the best damn oats I ever had heh.

When I first started eating oats I couldn't even eat a half cup. Now I can eat 4 or 5 cups worth and thats all dry. You just learn to love them and little by little you start taking some sugar away or this and that away. After time you can eat em with almost nothing in them.

Try what I told you...you are probably just like me and my oats have to be SWEET...any other way and I don't like em.

try adding a ripe banana + cinamon into the oats, it sweetens it up plenty...

I have known a lot of people who have had this kind of problem and never really understood it. I was always a huge eater in the AM, tons of cereal. I can eat beef and drink soda if I want and not have problems

Well, I know it is a mental thing about the breakfast food thing but I like it. I can however eat bacon and eggs and huge glass of oj just before I go to bed. That has to be my favorite breakfast
