I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.
I buy rolled oats in a natural food store. It's a huge bin that I just scoop out for 39 cents a pound.

Amsoil lasts MUCH longer. Why use Mobile 1?

Lol, I dunno. That's what my dad always told me to buy him at Costco. He has some pretty nice cars though and works on cars all the time, so I never questioned him.
I noticed a lot of people used Mobile 1. I just dont understand though, because Amsoil lasts for 25k, and you change the filter, and check the level after 10k.(Flush at 25k)

Well Mobile is a well known brand with a good reputation. I don't know how many people are familiar with Amsoil. I'm not familiar with it myself.
Hmm.. Well, its used in racing for MotoX, Snowmobiles, ATV's, and Boating I believe. They switched over to auto not too long ago. If you want info I can PM you some.

If someone uses a good named brand oil and changes it when it gets dirty or every 3 thousand miles your motor should be just fine.
There are serious debates over oil though. Many will swear to synthetic oil. But I am one that believes that if you change your oil and filter regularly keeping it clean your moter will last just as long. Would be interesting though to see some non biased facts to compare.
One thing with synthetic oil is that your motor needs to be well broken in before you use it. So I would have at least 30,000 miles on the motor to be safe before using it.
Outside of that if you start using synthetic, you better carry extra synthetic in your car. If your out on the road and run low then you need synthetic oil if you're using it.
I've heard non sythetic oil will not mix with synthetic oil.
Now they say you can go like twice as long or longer on sythetic oil before oil change.
Well personally I would rather have my bearing and other parts of the motor turning in clean oil than running synthetic for 6-10,000 miles straight.
Now on a positive note it is proven to help ease friction due to its superior lubrication properties. Saying this means that it will also reduce heat, which could add life. But the question is? Is it really worth it? And how much life could it really add? Sythetic is so much more than regular oil. It's like over 5 bucks a quart I think for mobil 1.
Again I run Catrol and change it when it gets dirty....so far so good.
I heard pensoil has gone down hill. It's all about the refining process... Interesting stuff when you read about it.

Synthetic after 30k? Are you madd? My uncles new BMW came with synthetic, and he takes it in ONCE after 30k miles for the oil change, and then every 10k after that. Its all sealed into the engine and crap now.

Sorry PreMier..Originally Posted by PreMier
I failed to mention I was referring to the earlier models when I made that statement. You are right that with the newer technology and tight clearances, many of the newer cars come out of the factory filled with synthetic oil.
But again, my statement holds true for the earlier cars... But by now they all should have over that milaege so it shouldn't be a concern. I just brought it up cause I had remembered way back when many reports of issues with guys using synthetic oil prematurely. The way the motors used to be designed, if you added the synthetic oil before the motor was broken in, with the superior lubrication properties, the motor would not break in properly.

Interesting. I have heard to add it ASAP. Because if not once you add it to an older car, it will start to have some leaks.![]()

I was told that becasue synthetic is thinner, and doesnt contain impurities that can clog small holes![]()

So these small holes, if not clogged by regular oil will cause sythetic oil to penetrate them and cause a leakOriginally Posted by PreMier

Why would something thin clog a big hole? Cars that used dyno oil for long periods of time (especially before detergents were added) had lots of sludge that kept leaky pans from leaking heavily. People blamed engine failures on both detergents and synthetic oils.
Most cars are broken in with dyno oils otherwise the rings dont always seat properly.
By the way, 5w-30 synthetic is not thinner than 5w-30 dyno, if anything it would avoid breakdown for longer periods where additives become burned off overtime eventually make the oil straight 5w.
When I had a leaky front oil pan gasket (where it meets the timing cover) I used straight 60w.
