    Water weight

For the last 5 months ive been on a 1500 calorie diet and lost 40 pounds (i'm 120 pounds now), i find i got no energy throught out the day cause I exercise alot and weight training isn't doing anything for me cause i don't eat enough, i'm also tired of not being able to got out with my friends for pizza and other stuff. Last week i went out on vacation with my best friend and his family and his mother convinced me to forget about all that diet crap, she said that with all the exercise i do i could basically eat antyhing i want (and since i'm only 15 my metabolisms pretty high) she said i know whats healthy for me and i can eat all healthy but if i have a treat so what? So i decided to go off my diet, but throught out the 5 days i got this like pouch on my lower abs and it felt like fat and i ended up gaining 5 pounds, so the day i got back home i went back on my diet and the first day i did i had to go to the washroom and pee alot and at the end of the day the pouch was gone along with the 5 pounds. So i figured it was all water weight, and i don't know what to do, if i should stay on my diet or what, so can anyone tell me why my body retained so much water, and how to stop it so i can get off my diet again

1500 calories is way too low for a male. How tall are you? 120 is almost anorexic.
I'm like 5'5 1/2", 140-142 lbs. And, you resistance train and do cardio?
I'd think about reassessing your goals and diet. I usually don't go under 2,000 cal. I can maintain my weight with ease, or lose body fat @ that amount. Take advantage of your test levels. EAT!

Ya i do cardio every morning and do weight training at night, i'm trying to gain gain some muscle and i know i can't do that eating 1500 calories, so thats a part of why i started eating more, but when i did i gained all that water weight and it was just disgusting to touch my lower abs i could grab like a handful off my stomach, and i was still drinking 2L of water daily so i have no idea why i gained so much water weight

    2L? thats it?

Beyond what everyone else is telling you, you should always drink 5-6L of water a day.

i do eat protein i eat 120+ grams a day, also it was water weight...unless you can lose 5 pounds in half a day which i doubt.

I'll start drinking more, someone told me all you had to drink was 2L so your body won't hold onto water

ok I'll try drinking the 5-6L daily while uping my calories to like 2500 or maybe more, and hopefully i won't retain...I just finished reading the refeed and leptin thread and it says "Remember, carbs make you hold water", so could it be because my bodies not use to the extra carbs and their holding in the water?

ya, i know i have to start eating more, but when i did i gained that weight and i just felt disgusted with myself - physically i felt better, i had ALOT more energy and instead of dreading exercise i kinda enjoyed it, but mentally i couldn't stand my body and the weight gain.. so i'm gonna try eating normally again and drinking the 5-6L of water and hopefully i won't retain water..and if i still retain water or gain weight then i guess i'll just have to increase my excercise to 2-3 hours daily and hopefully that'll work

to put it bluntly your 15 5'7" 120 lbs., sorry to say your scrawny, why do you want to lose weight, there are girls bigger then you that don't even workout and try to be bigger then you

You shouldn't be trying to lose weight at the current weight you are at and especially at that age, your only going to f' yourself up. Don't buy into pop culture looking at magazines or whatnot, and say to myself "gee i really want to look like that so i will lose weight, i'll go on a diet from hell and overwork my assoff trying to lose this excess weight" Well at your size the only weight you will be losing is muscle cause i can tell you that you have probably got minimal fat.
So just sack up and get out there, workout, but don't kill yourself, eat and eat some more but keep it sensible and healthy, the only reason why i don't eat bad foods/fast foods/sugary foods, is not because i'm scared of getting fat, but because it makes me feel better/have more energy/workout better. Damn man your only 15, you don't want to ruin the best years of your life over 2 lbs.

My workouts are really good, by the end i'm sweating alot, i also split my cardio and weight training up.
Also just to make it clear i'm not trying to lose weight, i know i need to gain some weight so i'm gonna try a build some muscles, my problem was that i was retaining water and i was wondering how to go about to make sure i'm not gaining water weight, but muscle

water will saturate your muscles, you gained water weight because if you were on a very restrictive diet(most likely low carb) then when you went off that diet and introduced more carbs, then you retained water weight. Carbs hold water. My weight can fluctuate by 5-6 lbs depending on what time of day and what i have eaten, is it fat? No, it's water weight, just start concentrating on gaining weight, trust me you can't just gain 40 lbs of water weight with no muscle gain
the only time you should worry about water weight is if you have a competition coming up or something to that matter

ok ya thats what i figured my body must not have been use to the carbs, also rougly how much calories should i be eating to gain muscle? 2500? or less? and would alot of reps at a lower weight be better than lower reps at a higher weight for muscle gain, i also don't rest inbetween my sets because i heard i'll elevate my heart heart more that why, but do you need to rest inbetween your sets to gain muscle? lol i should probably get a personal trainer i have so many questions

just start eating, track what you eat, try to gain a 1lb or so a week, when you stop gaining add a little more food, at your weight and since you have been on a restrictive diet you will want to start slow and slowly work your way up. Concentrate on low reps/heavy weight, you can still do cardio, but i wouldn't go out and try to run half marathons, i still do cardio and i am trying to gain weight, i just keep my cardio at a fast pace and eat sufficiently to keep gaining
