What is your total protein intake?
I bet it is not 400. If it is, it still is 50% of protein shake which IMO is no good.

dear boy that is far far too much protein in just one shake. you need to evenly divid you protein consumption among other meals.
As Vieope asked, how much protein are you aiming for in total each day?

Sometimes we have to do what we have to do, as far as finances and such. Getting 200 grams of protein powder a day isnt neccesarily a bad thing, IF spread out throughout 3-4 meals, and if its a mixed protein (or as I do when things get tough, mix whey with skim milk and add some powder milk for slower absorbtion).

Whey is a great protein post training, but if you dont slow down the absorbtion, or get a more slow release protein (egg or casien), then a good chance that whey is being used for energy and not muscle anabolism.

    First, Hi How are you?

Is there a way to know the exact amount of whey necessary to promote only muscle anabolism or is that just all speculation?

Thanks for the replies so quick. I am aiming for around 350grams a day. So would it be good to have 4 shakes a day each of 50grams.
P.S. I used optimum whey protein(10lb bag) and mix it with skim milk

IMO 350g protein is too much. Aim for 200-300g, which is plenty(1-1.5g/lb bw).

I personally would try to get in more whole foods.. do you like eggs? cottage cheese? tuna? chicken? beef? sooo many option than just shakes all the time.

Well I dont currently get to 350grams of protein at this time(probably more like 275) but I was just thinkig about aiming for that based on reccomendations in an article at bodybuilding.com which suggests the following for my weight
    Protein Recommendations
    Early Health Department Recommendation:
Each Day You Should Take In 195 Grams Of Protein.

    Average Bodybuilder Recommendations:
Each Day You Should Take In 332 Grams Of Protein.

    Dr Peter Lemon's Recommendations:
Each Day You Should Take In 351 Grams Of Protein.

I do currently eat tuna and eggs just about everyday and some sort of chicken or beef. I'm probably a little off by saying only 100grams from food is probably more like 150-175
