it is true, I can assure you all, please help her!![]()

I am a week out from my 3rd and final competition this year (maybe). Lately I have been having major melt-downs. One minute I am as happy as can be and life is great, the next minute, I feel like killing someone(not literally). I just flip out for no reason. Every little thing pisses me off, I get all emotional, and I become totally bitchy. I don't get it. I like competing. The dieting sucks, but it could be worse. Is there some sort of chemical reaction to dieting? Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice, please help. My husband is close to locking me up.

Seriously though, the last few weeks of dieting can be extremely rough, the depletion definately messes with your head!!!
I did four competitions this year a couple of them pre-contest I wasn't too bad the other two I was as sketchy as hell, I'd be euphoric one minute, then bawling my eyes out, I would get really mad somedays when no one else was even around me! I'd second guessed my physique all the time too I'm too lean, I'm not lean enough, I won't be ready... even when I was going through it I knew I was messed up and being irrational... it's quite amazing I still have a husband! I had absolutely no patience whatsoever, I had to dig deep to be able to handle my kids like a good mum! I am usually a completely mellow person, I like harmony and hate rifts... but I even remember getting some serious road rage when people cut me off or rode my ass etc. I remember just hoping one woman would get out of her car and try to start something I seriously wanted to pummel her![]()
I don't know WHERE that came from!!!
Anyhow, I know sooo many girls who have competed and gone through exactly what you are going through... just try to keep a grip and ride out the last few weeks and realize that although being completely certifiable right now you are still normal!![]()
Good luck Gena.
Ps. My best of advice for you Robert is don't say much too much of anything (you are likely to be wrong right now no matter what you say! lol) and you may come out a survivor!![]()
Hang in there Gena...one more week.
Your going through the normal mood swings of dieting. I was that way for three weeks between those two shows this year. Was not a good thing! I'd chew Craig's head off for no reason what so ever.
ROBERT.......DO as Gena says all week! No matter what she says or does...She WILL BE right this WEEK!![]()
Dieting all this time can really mess with your brain function and cause chemical imbalances. I experienced it a bit last year but did nothing about it. I later learned that St. John's Wort can help while dieting.

lack of carbs and adequate calories can cause serotonin levels to drastically drop- which causes depression and/or- like symptoms. ie. the mood swings.

Like Jen said, lack of carbs can make you sort of insane, eat some chocoale once in a while. It won´t kill you or increase your body fat. The psychological boost is much more valuable.

as much as she would like to do that she cannot, her competition is next Saturday!Originally Posted by Vieope

glad i can eat ANYthing i want.
just think of it (competing) as a choice you make. no one's forcing you to do it, therefore no one is forcing you to diet.
if its that important to you, you'll get through it, don' tyou worry...
You're a funny guy, Sully, I like you. Dat's why I'm going to kill you lahst.

yeah, but one of the side effects of St. Johns Wort is fatigue, not something you want pre-competition.
True but it's just some advice for next time because your body does adapt and the fatigue goes away. Taking that or 5HTP (which I prefer) while beginning a diet can be helpful with the moods and cravings![]()

What this lot said.
And to be fair, your body thinks it's starving to death. I'd expect some weird stuff to happen. Like if you deprived yourself of sleep.
But that can be quite fun too.
