    Metabolism!

Is it possible to have your metabolism i.e. Basic metabolic rate scientifically calculated? I was just thinking it would be helpful instead of just having a stab in the dark.
    Any ideas?

Im pretty certain there is a test(breath) or alike that tests your basil metabolic rate, but its not cheap and I dont know as its avalible in Canada even.

Your basal metabolic rate is very hard to calculate, so they usually calculate your resing metaboic rate (which comes in at about 10% higher than your BMR).

They can do this one of two methods -
Direct Calorimetry: This attempts to directly measure the amount of heat that is produced by your body in an attempt to workout how much energy you are burning. It is pretty hard to do and is very expensive so they don't do it very often (usually confined to medical research etc).

Indirect Calorimetry: This attempts to indirectly measure the amount of energy you use by measuring things such as the amount of Oxygen you use, the amount of carbon dioxide you create and the amount of nitrogen you excrete (in your urine). They measure these factors over a given period of time (usually done first thing in the morning and in a post-absorptive state - that is, you have to be fasted for 12-16hrs... They also request that you do not exercise for 24hrs and other things like that)... They then use some formula to calculate out your rough energy requirements. This method is not as exact but is not nearly as hard to measure, however you will probably still find it hard pressed to find a place to do it for you at a cheap cost...

Just do the estimate math algorithmn thingie.

Knowing your exact BMR sounds unnecessarily complicated and pointless.
