You need sodium. We sweat and uninate most of it out of our bodies throughout the day. Most athletes should be getting 2-3G of sodium per day.

Sea salt (not table salt) will also help you absorb water more effciently. I put a pinch of sea salt into my water before running or cycling so it gets into my system a little bit faster.
