    What to eat after workout??

I'll try to make this short...

Every second week (due to work) I work out in the morning after breakfast. I get home around 9:45/10:00 and am wondering what I should have to eat. I usually have oatmeal with raisins for breakfast, and I drink a protein shake during my workout. I try to eat every couple hours (usually 8, 10, 12, 2:30, 5, 7, 9) But I'm wondering what some good choices are for after my morning workout?? Today I had yogurt and a kiwi.

BTW the other weeks I train at 5:30 or so in the evening and have supper with my wife at 7:00 so it's usually a full meal.

    Thanks in advance

Hi. Mr Clean, welcome to the forum. The only thing I can suggest is to have an energy drink such as lucozade or something during you workout, I only use water but that's me. Then afterwards have a protein shake with oats and peanut butter (natural if you can but I cannot afford it), it might fill you up, so have a slightly smaller meal in the evening to compensate.

You should have a shake before and after your workout, but not during, it will just sit in your stomach. I have a shake 45 min before I lift and I have one waiting in the car for me for after I lift(with close to 100g of carbs). I only drink water during my workout. You will probably be hungry before the 2 hours is up after your post-lifting shake, and use that time to eat a decent sized meal, making sure to get 30-40g of protein in it and a decent amount of carbs.

Eat a better breakfast.(10 egg whites,1/2 cup of oatmeal)

Do not ingest anything while training other than water.

Never eat fats(peanut butter) as recommended after training, as they slow down your digestion, thus defeating the purpose of the post-workout meal, where creating an insulin spike is the goal.

After training, drink a whey shake in water, 35-50 grams of protein, and drink gatorade, dextrose,or a carb drink, preferably at 50 grams of carbs. You can mix the dextrose right into your whey shake and you can purchase it at your local health food store.

You want this in liquid form for faster digestion.
