    Water Retention

    Help! Anybody have any suggestions in helping with water retention? I never use table salt and avoid salty foods, but I retain water like crazy, yesterday I could barely see my ankles I was wondering if there are any foods that I could incorporate into my diet that might help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    I would get checked out by a doctor first off. A warning sign of Diabetes is swollen ankles/fluid in the legs. I think I heard something about heart disease too. Not to scare you but just be on the safe side.
    Otherwise If you are bloated, dont restrict water intake. It seems counterproductive, but drinking more water will help you flush out your bloatedness.
    Eat high potassium foods also to balance sodium levels.
    Some foods are natural diuretics too. Like lemons. Do a search online. But stay away from water pills and caffine in huge amounts since they will only dehydrate you, and then the problem will come back two-fold.

    Drink water! more water in = more water out. Drink at least a gallon a day. Best natural diuretic there is. The theophylline in green tea also acts as a diuretic, so drink up.

    It would be good to have a machine to calculate water weight just like there is one for body fat.

    That would be great. I can never tell if it is water or fat that I add over the weekend after the binges.

    "they have mass spectroscopy that uses deuterated water to measure the water in the body. Explains Dr Yajnik, ‘‘The person is made to drink a non-radioactive isotope of water called deutered water and this allows the measurement of body water. " i dont think thats for home use though

    Actually I'd prefer not to know how much fat I've gained after a cheat. I'd rather just lie to myself and pretend it's all water

    Do a search for "Water Shed and Aqua Ban"

    If your ankles are that swollen, I'd advise seeking medical attn as there could be a medical issue that needs evaluated.

    Is your diet hypocaloric right now? Other things kept constant you might reduce calories for a while and see if that reduces the bloat in addition to what others have suggested. Staying hypocaloric seem to be a bigger factor than a lot of people think.

    Cardinal: Thanks for the input, I'm definately going to make an appointment with my doctor and see if there's anything else going on. What do you mean by "hypocaloric"? I haven't heard the term before.

    Babsiegirl: Thanks I've used watershed in the past, and it has helped, but is it okay to take long-term? I'm still going to try and find out if there's an underlying reason.

    i would say at very least 4 liters of water per day. You could buy the decaffeinated if you'd like. However, caffeine is also a duretic and will help with water retention, so it wont hurt to get the caffeinated green tea.

    Meaning you are eating a caloric deficit. Hyper means excess of; hypo means insufficient amount.

    Everyday i fill up my two gallons milk jugs with water and bring one with me everywhere so i can polish them both off throughout the day. Then i add on top of that all the milk and orange juice or whatever i drink throughout the day. My friends call me a human sponge for some reason.

    You must pee like every half an hour ! I try to drink a gallon a day and I am constantly runny to the ladies room!
