Todays Lesson
Todays lesson is: Never ask people at health food stores for help.
So I read the forumns a bit, and decide to buy some shit to spike my insulin after a workout, the dexrose/maltodextrin while drinking whey. I ask a woman for help in finding these mysterious items (dextrose/maltodextrin) "Yeah i was looking for dextrose..." Woman "Are you looking to build muscle?" Me (dont get a chance to speak) Woman "Well what do you need all that for? Why dont you just eat protien." Me "er.." Woman "here let me show you something, my dad was a body builder, i know everything about body building" Me "er..really?" Woman "Yeah, that maltofructose isnt what your looking for." Me "actually..." Woman "What you want is Colostrum" Me "Oh.. whats that?" Woman "Boosts your immune system and you gain muscle like crazy, and it has no harmful side effects" Me "**thinking about every damn supplement add i've read sounding familar to this...**" Woman "Yeah, only 40 bucks, but you should get this also--Biolpid, it boosts the delivery system." Me "er, yeah.. ill have to try that sometime..." Woman "Nows a good time, here take this." Me "Uh, i think.." Woman "Try that out, and tell me what you think, gotta go, later" Me "Uh, er, umm..hmm................." So i should probably understand what the hell dextrose/maltodextrin is first, and never have to ask anyone a question about it. I figured it was related to sugar, but didnt metabolize as fast. Is this true. Also, what is Colustrum? |

Dextrose and malto are types sugar. They digest very fast, which is why they spike your insulin.
The presence of insulin will help to build muscle. Insulin is a storage hormone. It will help shuttle nutrients in to cells -- both muscle and adipose. Resistance training (lifting weights) is a nutrient partitioning activity (more calories will be diverted toward muscle, than fat, than normal). So this is an ideal time to spike insulin levels, though this certainly is not "necessary" to build muscle. Insulin is also anti-catabolic (since it is a storage hormone). In general, training causes catabolism, so insulin will put a halt to that as well. Colostrum (bovine colostrum) is basically the crap you get from "mother's milk". Its usefulness in bodybuilding is still questionable, as far as I am concerned, but it may be worth giving it a shot. http://www.colostruminfo.com/ |
