Of course opinions are all over the place on this question but in my opinion there has been enough research to show that unless you have a pre-existing kidney problem....the amount of protein you suggest should not be a problem at all.
There is also the question of how much protein you can actually utilize vs how much is safe...i think people often confuse these arguments so be sure to bring that up to your Dr.
Another point is that most doctors...and even nutritionists are unaware of the true bodybuilding lifestyle and needs of someone who trains heavily. It is not really something they deal with often enough to have good knowledge of the subject...in general (your Dr may be different, i am only making a general statement)
