    Are cookies that bad?

If I have a few sugary cookies or treats after a meal like a bowl of chili will that effect me in a negative way as far as the glycimic index goes or is sugar just bad by itself. Sorry its kinda a confusing question. I guess I want to know if sugar is only leathal by itself.

I get so tired of these STUPID questions. Typically I say no question is stupid but ones like these draw the line. Are cookies ok, is sugar gonna hurt, can I have bagels, I can't give up my regular coca cola.

For all you people, if you are serious about your goals then you will do what is necessary to reach them. If your not serious then hell, have whatever you want but DON"T bitch that you are fat!

Sorry Jodi. I seriously did mean to get you so fired up! I just want to know if sugar alone is worse because of the insulin spike or if the glycimic index gets lowered becasue of the other macronutrients like a bowl of chili. And for your info Im ripped.

You are 17 and shouldn't worry too much about what you eat so long as you are getting in the healthy foods too.

Sorry, I just figure that people know that cookies and sugar is bad PERIOD! Alone with other foods, it doesn't matter sugar is not good. As I said though at your age you can get away with a little more than most just watch your bodyfat.

Most people that ask those questions are new to this, you're getting mad because he asked a question?

It might seem stupid to you, but you've probaly been BBing for awhile and know alot about nutrition.

On the other hand (big surprise here) some people don't.

Even before I got into BB I knew cookies were bad. It's sugar and bad fats and it's common knowledge that those too things are NOT good for you. Yes, I get upset when people ask these questions because there is a TON of info on this site that explains why. Those that are serious about their health will make the effort to read and learn. In another thread I pointed him towards a sticky that has alot of information and I'm sure he will make the effort to read it.

seriously, to us its common knowledge but you'd be surprised the ignorance of the common person- the general public is not well informed. This kid wasn't bitching, and I became a member of the site asking stupid questions too- you have to start somewhere. If he doesn't ask, he'll never know.

Anyway, I think your question champ is if it's going to affect you as long as you don't go overboard. The answer is yes, it will still affect you. I'm just pulling this out of my butt right now but I believe a single cookie has 200 calories. That's a small cookie and that's alot of calories. A cookie is made up of two basic things- sugar and butter, and a lot of both plus chocolate or whatever you put in them. Those are bad for you. So yeah, it'll put a strain on your progress even if you eat just one or two cookies a day. Last summer I was staying with my mother and she had made a peaches and cream type thing and put it in a bowl. I ate a small portion for breakfast 3 days in a row and it seemed to put my progress to a halt. Turns out, it was LOADED with sugar.

At a young age, you can get away with it honestly. Your metabolism will handle it, but why take that step backwards? It's a bad habit to start now if you plan to keep this up in the long run.

Thanks for the info. Crono. Im going to try to slowly reduce the amount of "crap" in my diet. I mean its not bad by any means but not great. I get in the biggest trouble when I see my friends having a cookie or Im offered one and I dont want to say no.
