    Optimum Power Breakfast

Searched forums for this and didn't find anything.

I picked up this cereal from sams, looked pretty good, tastes pretty good as well. I've got the indgredients and nutrition facts here:

Let me know what you think.
Homer: Hey! I saved your life! That egg sandwich could have killed you by cholesterol.
Lenny: Pfft, forget it, Homer. While it has been established that eggs contain cholesterol, it has not yet been proven conclusively that they actually raise the level of serum cholesterol in the human
    blood stream.

It is not too bad - I used to eat it (and the 'Optimum Slim') a few years ago before I had a better understanding of nutrition.

It has a fair bit of sugar in it - 16g per serve (from the cane sugar, barley malt extract and blueberries). I imagine the GI would be intermediate (probably 60 odd??). Kamut is like wheat - and wheat has an intermediate to high GI when processed in wheat cereals. It also has the cane sugar which will bump it up too... But the flax and soy flour will lower it (fats and protein). The fibre content is pretty good and will lower the GI as well...

It is highly processed, which means you loose a lot of the natural benefits found in unprocessed grains (loss of phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals... which is why they added them back in again )...

I s'pose if you are craving cereal then it is one of the better cereals you can eat.... But nutritionally speaking I would still go for oats over this every day.

Well i'm still in the process of bulking, so i'm too concerned with eating perfectly. It tastes better to me than other fiber cereals, and it's got all organic ingredients with no artificial sweetners, so I thought it was pretty good when i'm looking for some different options for carbs.

I think cereals are great when bulking

I don't know if you have them in america, but over here in the UK we have a cereal called 'Clusters' by Nestle (its whole-wheat flakes mixed with clusters of almonds and hazelnuts.. yes a little brown sugar and glucose syrup too, but so what) i'm hooked on these right now, i'll have upto 2 large bowls of it a day (always have a bowl to finish off my PWO meal), can't get enough of it!

you'll probably have something similar over there I bet... I also love the 'crunch' cereals, like the ones with the clusters of process oats and nuts and fruit bits, anything like that!

I know they are not the best choice of carbs, thats why I 'add them' to my diet when i'm bulking (I don't replace them for my oats or rice or anything), and I keep them in strict moderation, and (almoast) anything in moderation is fine when bulking IMO

    peace
