    Rice

I am startin to get a little fed up of cooking 1 1/2 cups of rice for work and when I get it there once it's been microwaves it comes out in a few blocks. I've been advised to rice it three times thru water to get some of the starch out, I was also advised to stir in a few spoons of oil/veg oil onc it is cooked, any ideas guys?

For best results with rice use basmati. This is the king of all rice, if you can use Tilda basmati so much the better. I have never had tilda brown rice stick..ever. I don't like to rinse it after it has been cooked, I think it loses some of the flavour if you do. The trick is to keep moving the rice around as it cools. If you want to add oil, do so before you add the water, just a little to mix with the raw rice, but I don't think this is necessary.

At the moment I like to throw in a little wild rice with the brown. Wild rice has a great flavour but I find it very hard to eat as you would other rice.

Second point after several attempts at trial and error this is going to sound stupid but how do you measure how much rice to have before it's cooked?. What I guess I am trying to say is how much raw rice maks one cup of cooked?

I never rinse the rice first, usually just throw it in the rice cooker to cook. To rehat in the micro, I add a tiny amount of water and nuke of a min. You can add a lil oil or butter if you like while its cooking. Just depends on what you training goals are.

On the measuring part...rice doubles in size when cooked. So one cup raw equals two cooked. I think? I dunno...I know I use two cups water, 1 cup rice in the cooker and it makes a buttload.

I've always washed rice before I cooked it. It's just the way I learned though. I also cook in a pot vs. a rice cooker.

Well, 1 cup of cooked brown rice is roughly 210 cals, 46g carbs, 4g protein, 1g fat...

So if that fits into your meal plan/calorie ratio etc then 1 cup will be enough.
