    Eggs for Breakfast

Question: How many whole eggs and how many egg whites is the optimal amount?

For breakfast I usually have a cup of oatmeal,1 whole egg along with 5 more egg whites and a banana. What I want to know is should I be eating more egg whites? Lets assume I drink a cup of milk too. My goal is to hit 40 to 50g of protein for breakfast.

I just ate basically the same breakfast...
    5whites, 1 whole, 2 slices wheat, shake (1cup skim, 46g whey, 1/2 banana)

why not throw a small shake in there to get your protein?

Well I'm trying to limit my shakes. I take two during the day, one after I workout, and one before bed. I'm using 100% whey between meals along with a banana, apple,or a cup of total cereal before I head to the gym....and then I am going to try MHP's 12 hour protein at night before bed...so thats already 4 shakes....I would like to keep as much real food in me as possible and not rely on shakes to get the majority of my protein. Problem I am having is eating more then 6 eggs gets very filling when you combine it with the oats.

you should invest in Egg whites International. 8oz = 10 egg whites .

    Here is my breakfast:

    10oz E.W.I.
½ cup 100% Old fashioned oats.
    2 scoops MAXPRO or MuscleMilk.
    1 packet Splenda.
    3 ice cubes.
    Blend and serve.

Repeat before bedtime, minus the oats and I add 5 grams Glutamine.

I just do the whites. no yolks. Craig does 5 to 1.

I don't think there is an optimum amount. everyones nutritional requirements are different. I have 4 whole eggs every day...

I'm the same as you LAM. I usually have 4 or 5 whole eggs every day. I don't see the sense in eating just the whites. Big deal, the yolk has some fat, and cholesterol in it, but look at the nutrition facts on a yolk, and you'll see it has a ton of other good things in it too. Besides, the whole egg tastes better lol. I won't lie about that being a reason too.

yeah, well of course other things are a source too, but why eliminate the eggs? I don't think anything is wrong with it, especially considering the fact that i'm not intending on going pro anyday. Hell yeah I wanna look good, and eating these few eggs aren't doing anything bad. So what the hell? I might as well eat them huh? lol

I would rather consume flax oil or olive oil to get fats rather then an egg yolk...I will eat one or two just because there is good nutrients in it, but I would rather avoid the cholesterol. I guess the 1 whole 5 whites is a good place to stay...I would eat more but like I said its very filling...maybe i'll have an extra glass of skim milk to add more protein in the morning.

I usually have 4 whites and 1 whole egg. However, I think the cholesterol in eggs is bastardized too much. The direct effect on serum cholesterol levels has never really been proven to be negative. As well, the yolks contain a lot of other nutrients.

I eat whole eggs because the have the highest bioavalibilty of any animal protein source and there impact on total total serum cholesterol values has been proven to be negleable ,genetics plays 80% diet is only 20...

elevated serum insulin levels cause a greater risk to contributing to CVD than does cholesterol...

I once had high cholesterol (240), but got it under control. My doctor has me do cholesterol tests twice a year and my last two were in the 133-160 range with HDL in the upper 40's (which is good).

The reason I mention this is because my basic breakfast for the last couple of years has been 7 egg whites and 2 whole eggs, and 1-1/2 to 2 servings of oatmeal. Like CP and Lam said, most of the nutrients of an egg is contained in the yolks. Obviously the two yolks a day has not adversely affected my cholesterol levels at all.

TM, did you realize an egg white only contains 17 calories? Adding a couple more should be unnoticeable as far as being more filling.

Exactly. Lots of sugar and refined carbohydrates have more of an adverse affect on cholesterol levels than your actual intake of cholesterol does.

I'll try the two whole eggs and 7 whites...that should be enough....I was trying to do 1 whole 11 whites....but I was getting sick trying to get them all down.
