Egg white is the white (non-yolk) part of the egg.
Yeah, I know I'm an idiot, but is an egg white like the white part of a hard-boiled egg, or is it something different?
I just got confused because I see a lot of diet's with like 5 egg whites and 1 whole egg.
make fun of me all you want...I deserve it for asking such a stupid question![]()

Egg white is the white (non-yolk) part of the egg.
how do you separate the yolk from the white? and why would you want to only eat the white part?
Berserker: Band of ancient Norse warriors, who fought frenzied by intoxicating liquors, and naked, regardless of wounds.
not a dumb question, would like to know myself
it's easiest to have someone show you how to separate the egg but i'll give it a shot here.
crack the egg and when you pry it open don't dump it out. instead "pour" the yolk back and forth between the 2 halves of the shell. let the white spill out into the bowl below. eventually all of the white will be in the bowl and the yolk will be sitting in the shell.
obviously if you're hard boiling ya just toss the yolk.
many people here eat more whites than yolks so they get the protein without all of the fat adding up. depends on your goals but a yolk or two won't kill ya![]()

LOL. This is funny. You can seperate the eggwhite from the eggyolk when it is raw by passing the yolk between the halves of the eggshells and catching the yolk in a bowl. Or, put all of it in a bowl and scoop out the yolk.
Typically we stay away from the yolk because it is high in cholesterol, 215mg per yolk. Its not that we dont eat them, we just eat much less of them as compared to eggwhites.
A good way to think about it - if youre gonna have 5 eggs, only make one a whole egg. The rest should be just eggwhites.
I bought me an egg seperator for like 2bucks. Works great.
I could'nt have explained it any betterOriginally Posted by nikegurl

seriously people the easiest and quickest way to seperat is to crack the egg open let it all fall into the pan then scoop up the yolk using one of the halfs of the shell and just throw it in the garbage with the shell. takes 2 seconds
I believe you should eat some yolks...they are full of vitamines and important minerals the body needs. And the cholesterol is a good form of cholesterol your body needs. Of course over doing it is a no no but they are an imortant balance to your diet. Plus it forms as a cheap fat source to a meal....I don't have to add any extra flax or natty pb...saves this poor college student some money LOL.Originally Posted by du510
No way...I can seperate an egg much faster with the two halves then your method...but then again I grew up in an industrial kitchen so I learned to do things very fast!Originally Posted by njc

I buy Trader Joes Organic Omega 3 enriched large eggs and the nutritional label says 6 grams of protein per whole egg. And unless Im mistaken the yolk has very little protein meaning most of it comes from the white. But the fat and everything is still the same. Good eggs, I guess?Originally Posted by largepkg

Nope, the yolk has protein too. Its about 2/3 from the white, but the yolk has some too. Check out below:Originally Posted by XcelKrush
