    Question Best Protein Bar?

I work in Law Enforcement and work odd hours and swing shifts. I am currently on a bulking diet and although I don't have Protein Bars in my daily diet, I'm looking for that quick meal I can eat when I'm busy on the road. For example, I've only been on my new bulking diet (first time every attempting this) for 5 days now and last night we had a small snow storm which left me extremely busy with accidents. I was unable to get back to the office for 4 hours and missed out on 2 meals. I was thinking of carrying a protein bar or two for emergency fixes in those types of situations. Is this a good idea? If not, what is? If so, can anyone recommend any certain bar that is better then others? I bought a Met-Rx, "BIG100" bar to try, but it's got 51g of Carbs and 26g of sugar. Not sure what I should be avoiding at this point though. Thanks in advance.

Go for Myoplex storm bars. They are only $10 for a box of 12 at www.dpsnutrition.net. I get those and Tri-O-Plex bars. The Tri-O-Plex are more expensive though.

make your own, just think of the stuff you would eat in a normal meal, oats, eggs, protein, milk whatever, figure out the right amounts of each to reach a good thick consistency and throw it in a food processor, ball it up and spread it out into a bar, stick it in the freezer or fridge, and walla a meal ready to go. Go easy on the wet ingredients though, youll make a gooey mess.

    Heres what i do
Homemade Tri-O-Plex style bars (look like em anyways)

    Good point Jeep,

You can go with his Tri-o-plex recipie or you can try these . I have made them and they taste great!! The thread also offers some good variations.

    Good Luck!

detour bars *taste* the best, but they carry too much baggage.

As suggested, make your own & control what goes into them.

Thanks for the info everyone, but between my work and my kids, I've barely got enough time to prepare my meals and workout, let alone make my own protein bars. They sound great, but for now I'm going to have to stick to the store bought ones.

I would say go with tri-o-plex...they are one of the best ones out there. Not to expensive either. Made with good quality calories. Can't go wrong with them.

But if you want something else besides a bar try and pack a shake. Just some protein powder...something along the lines of like a complex mixture...and add some oats. Keep that in your car and when you need it add water. You can pack some nice cals in a home made shake if your trying to bulk. A bar doesn't have nearly enough calories to bulk with but is better then starving.

Tri-O-Plex, the Cinnamon Raisin is delicious!!!

Also in my case (that I'm bulking), I like Met-Rx Big 100, those are good for a meal replacement.

The Up Your Mass bar by MHP tastes good IMO ...

i like the idea of making my own protein bars.. the only thing is.. is it vital to my whey protein that i do not have it come into contact with heat.
I use ON whey protein and i remember readin on this site somewhere that your protein should not be heated because it somehow kills it.. or something..???or am i just retarded

I eat Trioplex bars too. They're a little expensive, so I may get into making shakes instead. We shall see.

If you look closely at the labels now they have adjusted them after that research came out. The labels are curently accurate. That was when they first came out.

Either way the products used are healthy and natural products...they are not full of processed crap. I'd pick it over a detour or any bar any day hands down.

Trioplex and Detour bars about the only bars I can tolerate. And boy are those Detour bars good (tasting, anyway).

As far as the homemade bars go, the best bar I've had is one my wife makes with protein powder, natural peanut butter, and oats.

so i was shopping for ingredients for my homemade protein bars and i found this stuff called Apple Butter. i figured instead of adding applesauce and Pnut butter.. i will use this. it was $1.50 for a 1lb 12oz jar. CHEAP. it tastes super good.
1Tbsp. = 30 cal, 0 fat, 0 soudium, 8 carbs/ 3%, sugars 6, but no protein.. so ill just throw a bit of natt pnut butter in it.. but i find it to be a good alternative.
downside is that it has sugar and high fructose corn syrup for ingredients.

Arggg - Let me get this straight... You got something that has added sugar and high fructose corn syrup in to use INSTEAD of 100% applesauce and natty PB??? Why??

Sure it may taste good - but so does chocolate! You are far better off using the natural ingredients...

This makes no sense...it would be like me saying...ya know my oatmeal tastes so much better now that I add this milk, honey, and 10lbs of sugar as well as my eggs with this 3 cups katchup.

Why add that if it does nothing to help the nutritional values?

What a joke this is. You are kidding right? Then why bother MAKING homemade protein bars when the real store bought one are probably going to be better for you than the ones you are going to make wiht apple butter
