    vegetable calories

do you guys count them? say for a salad with about 2 cups shredded lettuce and mushrooms, or some onions and mushrooms in my omelet etc?

I find it tedious, and they never add up to more than a 100 or so cals per meal. Usually around 50.

It's personal preference on if you choose to, or not. I do, only because I'm anal like that lol. Besides, you're bulking. You shouldn't worry about veggie cals.

I wouldn't count them. your body spends more energy to digest and metabolize them than they contain. just count the salad dressing (aways measure).

If you eat ALOT of them though would you start to need to factor in some sort of calories for them? I tend to eat a ton of veggies a day. I never factor them in though...just as you said the dressings and such.

The classification of a negative calorie would be what: a leafy, green, high in fiber veggie correct?

You are suppose to count the calories from Fish oil - it is a fat.

    I don't count my veggies......ever!

And Viope - I wouldn't call that entire list negative calories by any means.

hmmm so if i am counting veggie cals and getting a few hundred cals from them a day and just meeting/exceeding my desired cal intake, i'm actually falling short? (broccoli, green beans, pineapple, lettuce, strawberries, apples are those in question based on the list above.) Thoughts?

Hmmm..if those are negative calorie foods, does that mean I can eat all the chocolate covered broccoli I want?

Negative...fruits are not negative calories...they are a sugar filler carb LOL. They should be counted into your every day calories...but broccoli, green beans, lettuce, cabbage, etc etc need not be coutned.

My main veggi intake is as follows:
    Carrots
    Celary
    Cucumbers
    Tomatoes
    Lettuce
    Green Beans
    Cabbage
    Spinach
    sometimes onions

Which of these would be considered a negative calrorie and which should I stay clear of?

I agree... With maybe the exception being watermelon... Although it is higher on the GI scale the actual calorie content of this is SO low that if you chewed it a lot you would probably burn more than you consumed! If you ate it when it was really cold - well, you could burn even MORE calories trying to warm it up! LOL

but broccoli, green beans, lettuce, cabbage, etc etc need not be coutned.

My main veggi intake is as follows:
    Carrots
    Celary
    Cucumbers
    Tomatoes
    Lettuce
    Green Beans
    Cabbage
    Spinach
    sometimes onions

Which of these would be considered a negative calrorie and which should I stay clear of?
I would always count things higher in 'sugar' and lower in fibre - such as:
    Peas
    Carrots
Corn (not a vege - it is a grain)
    parsnips
    onions (if eating a lot)
tomato (if eating a lot) - and yes, I know it is a fruit...
    beets

I wouldn't/don't usually count things higher in fibre and water content, eg:
    Lettuce/lettuce mixes (rocket etc)
    Spinach
    Cucumber
    Celery
    Broccoli
Brussel Sprouts (unless in huge amounts)
    Cabbage (red or green)
Chinese greens (bok choi, chinese broccoli etc)
    Cauliflower
Zucchini (unless it is in HUGE amounts)
Green beans (unless it is in HUGE amounts)
    Eggplant (unless in huge amounts)
    Mushrooms ( )

Of course, if you are going to eat anything by the bucket load you might want to start factoring it in to some degree. Esp. if you are cutting - and especially if you are not seeing results.

You had to say that didn't you!!! Veggies were the only thing keeping my sanity LOL...I'll watch my veggies intake. What would be considered to much? More then lets say 6 cups of veggies a day? Man I gotta 86 my baby carrots to...don't want anything holding me back.

    LOL - Sorry.

Seriously, if you are still seeing results at the moment then don't worry about the vegetables. They are of more benefit than harm... I eat a hell of a lot as well and they don't harm me in the least.

Just watch your progress and if it starts to stall - think about your diet and look at your other macro's and foods... If that is all fine, then consider looking at your vegetables.

.... But I would be careful with the baby carrots....

I love those things. My brother got some the other night and little by little I was picking at them all week. Like 3 here 4 there. Nothing crazy but they are soo sweet and tender. Thank god they are gone...wont be eating anymore of those any time soon now. I mostly eat cucumbers b/c they are the cheapest thing around right now LOL. I will eventually move onto cabbage and other veggies once I get tired of them.

You are suppose to count them....you are saying as if most people don't count those fats. EVERYONE who takes fish oil should be couting them into their daily calorie range...not just the anal. I beleive you are mis-understanding her

Tell me just one. The fruits listed there even with high glycemic content have enough nutrients to produce tons of enzymes that will speed up metabolism and burn them all.
