I still use eggbeaters in my shakes to give it a more thick effect, emulating what ice cream would do.

Try adding a little guar gum or xanthum gum to the shake instead... (as long as it is not pwo)...

You are much better off if you cook the eggs and eating them on the side.

They are fibre type substances that are used to thicken recipes/shakes etc. They can delay gastric emptying, thus, not the best things to use post-workout.

However, there is some evidence to suggest that they can also increase the absorption of protein from a meal... So they may be beneficial in protein utilisation.

Would they be benefcial for a shake before bed?
they zero calories? How much you need to add to 1 shake?

The amount you would need to add would be substantial if you significantly wanted to delay gastric emptying for the purposes of a late evening meal... (read me if you want more information). So it would not be nearly as beneficial as some healthy fats.

And even though this suggests it doesn't delay gastric emptying I still would not use it post workout...

But here is the info on the ability it has to help with protein/nitrogen utilisation...

Oh... And nothing is calorie free...

Can I pick this stuff up at a local grocery store? Personally, the eggbeaters just seem real easy for me.

Supermarkets, healthfood stores and, oddly enough, chemists will often have them.

Look in the bakery section or ask at the counter.

they are not cost effective when compared to buying raw eggs. I mean what does it take about 3 seconds to crack and egg and seperate the yolk, so it's not like they really save time either.
