    Help The Animal!

    Here's the deal...

I've got a beer gut! Yes! I am ashamed, but I have been working out for the last month to lose it. I joined a gym a year ago, had a personal trainer and such, but due to travel restrictions, stopped going. I have joined a gym again, and should no longer have any set backs in making it to the gym regularly. I do eat much better than before, but I don't think it's still cutting it.

Now, the scoop is, I want to gain weight, upper body mass and strength, which I am already starting to notice, but the beer gut seems invincible.

Can someone makes suggestions on what I should try to eat in terms of diet, including any supplements that would help burn fat and boost workout energy.

All and any help is appreciated!

    #1....stop drinking beer

#2..... you need to decide which you want to do, lose the gut or gain weight....you can't lose weight and gain it at the same time. My suggestion would be to cut first....focus on lowering your bf and getting rid of your beergut, then you can go about adding extra calories and gaining some mass.

That is not to say you shouldn't train for size...just be aware that muscle gain will be slow.

As for diet....why don't you post a typical days diet and we can pick it apart for you

Fortunately, I don't drink beer! Vodka and Scotch are my poison!

    Lessee here, a typical day?

1.Breakfast: A bowl of cereal (high in fibre) with skim milk.
2.I have any of a selection of fruit for snack (mandarin, kiwi, banana, apple).
3.Lunch: I like to do Subway (6" turkey on Country Wheat, w/cheese (I know, I know...), lettuce, pickles, olives, green peppers, mustard).
4.Again, more fruit for snack time.
5.Supper (@work): The other half foot from Subway. I also throw in fruit and low fat real fruit yogurt to cut the hunger. 5Alive & V8 to drink.

All in all, it's not too bad, minus the occasional naughty snack that may crop up.

And oh yeah, I ALMOST ALWAYS drink wah-wah throughout the day.

    Pick it apart woman!!!

Most excellent! My plans are coming to fruition! Although, a reaming wasn't part of the plan...A slight tear is okay, though.

    LOL @ MBC

Ok, first, you're right, it's not too bad......for someone who doesn't work out

But if you wanna add some muscle and lose some fat, you're gonna have to make a few changes.

Meal 1: High fibre cereal is okay...I guess. Just make sure it doesn't have any added sugar, or at least, very little. The thing w/ cereal is, almost all of the available cereals are high glycemic, which is kinda counter-productive when trying to lose fat. However, fat, fibre & protein all reduce the insulin response, so if you continue eating a high fibre cereal and add some protein w/ this meal, it would be better.

Meal 2: Where's the beef? You need a constant supply of lean protein....fruit doesn't cut it. Skip the fruit and switch to a complex carb....oats, sweet potato, brown rice.

Meal 3: Could be worse....lose the cheese & the sauce.

    Meal 4: add protein

Meal 5: See note for meal 3

Basically, you're getting too much sugar and not enough protein. It looks like you're not getting enough calories too...though I guess it depends on how much of that juice and alcohol you drink.

I just answered something similar to this in another thread...it was posted by carbaddict, named "help" I think, you should check it out.

Mustard is bad? I thought it was good!

    No mustards fine.

No, I don't do supps for the most part....you might benefit from a whey protein shake if you think you need it to get more protein. Gopro will be able to help you out in the supp forum better than I could
