Thumbs up After 3 weeks...

Just wanted to check in for some good feedback. I've been working out seriously for the last 6 weeks and I'm into my 4th week of a bulk diet (and bulking workout). I can't say that I've been 100% perfect on my diet, I've had a cheat day every now and then, but compared to the shit I used to eat I'm eating great. I've gained about 5 lbs in the last 3 weeks or so (after lossing 5 lbs in my first week) and for the first time in my entire life, I can see definition in my muscles. I've never been strong or cut or anything, but now I can see change! My wife is thrilled and said that even though my diet can be a pain in the ass, it must be worth it b/c she's seen a major physical change in me within the last few weeks.

I just started lifting seriously over the last 2 months. I was always embarrassed to lift around others b/c I'm so weak. Hell, I'm 6'3" and 190lbs and couldn't bench more then 100. The hardest part was getting over the initial mental obsticle of worrying about what others thought. Over the last few weeks I've added 10-20lbs of weight in most of my exercises. Yeah, I'm still relatively weak and have a looooong way to go, but now that I can see a change my confidence level has risen 10 fold and I feel good about myself. I find myself flexing in front of the bathroom mirror admiring the little changes...sounds corny, but to someone who's never had any definition, it's everything.

Thanks everyone in the board for the great information and feedback you always give.

PS: I'll be adding photos soon to show progression.

It sounds like you are doing great! It takes a lot of guts to go to the gym and workout in front of everyone, I can sympathize...I go to the gym around 9 am, and I am the only woman in there at that time that lifts weights...it took me a good 3 or 4 weeks for any of the men in there to take me seriously because I wasn't in there picking up the pink 2lb dumbells.... Keep up the good work, and good luck!!! BILLIE

Congrats dude ... Keep it up , and don't discourage yourself ... It takes a long time to add some quality meat . You seem to be of on a very good start , so keep it up and there is nothing wrong with admiring yourself in the miroir

If it helps , I too , had small weights when I started working out ... I used to do my sets of 10 with barely 80 pounds on the bench press. I can now do them with 195 lbs ... So if I can do it , I'm sure you can , just keep working hard at it , and you'll get there !

When a goal is reached comes satisfaction . You're accomplished as a person when you surpass those goals .

I would venture to guess that the large majority of users on this site flex in front of the mirror on a regular basis. It's really the best way to see your gains.

Are you kidding? It's part of my routine, i'd be lost without post lifting flexing. Lift, flex, eat, that's the it goes everytime.

Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone! I posted pics to show progress, although I've already made lots since I started (not that you can tell from the pics).

Actually I haven't even thought of taking measurements. Up until this time it didn't really matter since something is better then Nothing! I've been judging by the weights I've increased and the small amount of definition I've seen. What are the best muscles to measure for progress? I don't think I could measure so accurately to see n 1/8th inch increase!

Also, just a random question: Ever since I've been on this bulking diet I've increased my workout weights by leaps and bounds. I've been trying to do max weights so that I can get 3 good sets of 4-6 reps. But every week I end up doing 6-8 reps of my previous weeks max. I've never been able to do this before, then again I've never taken lifting seriously or eaten correctly before either. I'm attributing it to my good diet though.

Thanks for checking. I really appreciate the support. Although I must confess that I'm having doubts about my bulking diet. I haven't been gaining the weight like I had hoped and I'm sure it's b/c I can't keep up my calorie's that I need. Life gets in the way. I had a fellow officer (in my department) shot in the line of duty on Sunday, and I haven't eaten much in the last 2 days or even thought about working out. I just need to get re-motivated. Not sure what I'm doing about the diet, even if I don't continue the bulking, at the least I've started eating better, 4-5 meals a day, working out, and taking better care of myself.

Again, thanks for checking on me. That's why I like this forum, there's always someone out there to give you a boost, even when you don't ask for it.

Thanks for checking in on me Billie, it's very much appreciated. I don't know if you've read some of my other posts, but I'm not bulking b/c I found out I've got high bf! (although it's lower then it was a year ago) But, I'm trying hard to keep my diet clean and I'm still lifting as heavy as I can and added some cardio into my routine. The only visible bf on me are these little love handles, and I want to try and shrink them down before summer time. I'm going to work even harder and post some more pics in another month or so to show some difference from 2 months ago.

Thanks again for asking!
