For bulking probably closer to 4,000
How many calories should i be taking in per day? age 27 174lbs 6'2" I train 5-6 days. want to gain muscle mass. I have little body fat.

WOW, I don't know how to even get that many in a day.Originally Posted by musclepump
I'll start tracking it better and see where I am at right now.
I'm 5'8" and 160 and a clean bulk is about 3k. So I'd say 3500-4000 at a guess??
Start somewhere in that vicinity for 2 weeks and measure your weight and adjust as you go.
What this means is that when we drop a ball and it falls to the ground, it wasn't the ball that moved (down to the ground), but the ground that moved (up to the ball)
No one can tell you that - it not only depends on your age/physiological state, training intensity and lean body mass but also your genetics (some people just 'burn' more energy), your overall daily expenditure (not just exercise, but how much you do in general) and even your external environment (temperature etc).Originally Posted by vegman
Although there are basic formula you can use to roughly calculate your requirements you can do it simply by trial and error.
Log how much you eat over 1-2 weeks (weigh yourself before and after to make sure you maintain your current body weight) then enter all the values into something like:
www.fitday.com
or
www.nutritiondata.com
and get your overall calorie intake for the weeks. Then divide that by the number of days to get your average daily intake.
Also read through the sticky 'Guide to...'. This will greatly help you in comming up with a diet plan.
