How long to wait for protein

How long should ya wait after a workout before ya eat or have a protein shake(or whatever other supplement)? I keep getting alot of info saying to wait at least 1 hour and others saying to make sure ya get protein into ya within 25 minutes. Both arguments come up with valid points and seem to have good scientific facts to support their claims, but at the same time they are mutually exclusive,ie.the "wait at least 1 hour" approach says that taking nutrients any earlier is negative because your body is busy pumping blood or something along those lines while the "within 25 minutes" approach says your muscles are in need of nutrition right away and ,thus, waiting an hour or so is negative!!

So what do you guys find has the best results?

dont wait long after, have the food or shake right after you are done, you want to have something in you within 30 minutes of being done with the workout

I take creatine right after my workout and I'm not supposed to eat anything for 30 minutes after... Guess I should down that protein shake right after my 30 minutes are up?

I use to just mix my creatine in with my post w/o shake....I don't think it will hurt it if you do this. I always got gains by taking my creatine on food...try it out and see how it works.

Just be sure to mix and chug...never let creatine sit in water or it does nothing. I think its something like any longer then 10 minutes in the water and its useless or something...forget where I read that a while ago.

Errr, wait, just thought of something... I usually do my protein with milk and my creatine with water... Not to mention my creatine is flavored. Hmmmm, fruit punch flavored creatine/whey milk shake?

    Its been done before.

Just take a mouth full of water...pour the powder(creatine) in your mouth and swallow it all in one shot then chase it with your shake. I prefere taking my powders this way...just easier and faster. Plus you don't have to taste it very long.

Why not use skim milk with a post workout shake? I use skim milk for both my pre and post workout shakes..

i do all the time it tastes absolutely rank but you get used to it just hold your nose while drinking or something so you don't taste any of it until you have finished, the worst bit are the occasional lumps that fall into your mouth

I take my protein and oatmeal in my shaker and leave it in the car, when I am done with my workout I get to my car and have the shake in the car while I get a little rest from the workout........

Now that is one thing i can't stand is having oatmeal with your shake must be real lumpy :barph: not sure about that cardio question though i would assume you take it before you start cardio as your muscles still need it where as cardio is burning off fat not muscle (oh gawd just re-read it and it sounds quite confusing)

You don't want oatmeal in your post workout shake. You don't want any fiber in there slowing down digestion and absorption.

Oatemeal is fine....its a low GI complex carbs. If you are not looking for an insulin spike oatmeal is fine....I've been using it for years.

    Its Spelt Dextrose
and, i though im not sure technically what it is

Its basically sugar, except it absorbs super fast, and creates an insulin spike

I think its bad after cardio, cuz it'll prevent you from utilizing fat...
Hope im wrong cuz i take it after a workout and cardio a few times a week
