1. Because it requires more calories to break it down and use it.
2. The fiber is higher which means overall less calories
3. It contains more health benefits.
4. Goat Yogurt is fine.
I know that boxed cereals are best to stay away from (even whole grain kind) because they're too processed. But why exactly is the body better at losing body fat when you eat natural grains (oats, brown rice) reather then the whole grain boxed cereal?
Dairy... is this something to cut out when one is preparing for a competition (someone with already a very low bf%) or should it be cut out by anyone who's trying to lose body fat? I get confused because I see many eat cottage cheese and that's dairy, but staying away from other forms of dairy. My main consern is the Goat's yogurt (not flavored) I eat...

Cottage cheese is the left overs after the whey (which contains the lactose milk sugars) is drained away.
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Bump on what Jodi said - they have more nutrients (more vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, healthy fats, proteins, water, fibre), they (usually) have a lower GI and GL, which means you get less carbs per serve and less of an insulin response to those carbs and they have more of a thermogenic effect as more fibre means they are harder to digest (meaning you burn more calories trying to get the calories). They also fill you up and keep you fuller for longer - meaning you are less likely to cheat!Originally Posted by Katia7

Dairy is fine for most people just trying to loose weight - and it can actually AID in weight loss!! If you are interested I posted some links in this thread here .Dairy... is this something to cut out when one is preparing for a competition (someone with already a very low bf%) or should it be cut out by anyone who's trying to lose body fat?
Many people eat cottage cheese because during the processing they take out the majority of the lactose - so it is basically a protein (it still illicits an insulin response due to the type of protein it is - but it doesn't have the carbs and it is the carbs that most are conserned with).I get confused because I see many eat cottage cheese and that's dairy, but staying away from other forms of dairy.
I think this is fine. It does not have lots of added sugar and flavours and the breakdown is not too bad (actually, being a yoghurt, it is rather good having more protein than carbs...) the only thing I would be concerned about is the level of saturated fats...My main consern is the Goat's yogurt (not flavored) I eat...
