    Body saying: too much food?

To be brief, I've become fat. Well, not fat by a longshot according to 'normal' standards, but I'm sitting around the 19-20% range, which is a long way up from the 12% I had when I started seriously lifting two years ago. That's not a huge increase (I don't think), but it's in the last few months that I made the jump from about 15/16% to where I am now - I put on fat, and nothing else.

My diet had been quite good (although not perfect) and I was eating lots of protein in the form of whey and chicken, carbs from 100% whole wheat products, baked potatos, and oats. Fats were largely EFA's and natty PB.

All that happened though was fat gain. And being a small person (you can see my pics in my bio section - I'm about 154 lbs in them). I now weigh about 164 pounds, which for my very slight build and short height (about 5'6) is pretty decent. I don't look as trim anymore, and my love handles and lower-ab flab have resulted in a size 34/34.5 waist - up about an inch/inch and a half from where I was a couple of months ago.

So - long and short - time for a cut? Should I just keep bulking and hope my body rights itself? Or is it telling me I'm carrying way more weight than I need to... (started out pre-lifting at about 130 lbs two years ago). I don't like this abdominal fat, and I don't know whether to try and get rid of it, or to try and build more muscle, and worry later about it.

    Cheers!

Well of course it's your decision. Just don't get caught in the perpetual bulk mentality when all the while your bf is going higher and higher. Prolly time to look at your overall caloric intake, maybe a few minor adjustments would get you on your way without much trouble.

The fatter you get, the more insulin sensative your fat stores become and the more resistent your muscles become. So fatter people get fatter, and have a harder time putting on muscle.

I am around the 15% range right now and I'm in need of some trimming, if 19-20% is not asking for a cut - when would you cut?

    I'm not fat :P

I don't look fat by any means - I hardly look much different from the photo of me you can see on this website. I'm just wondering whether to shed the extra pounds or not
