My boyfriend is a bodybuilder and has been competing at 165lbs for the past 4 years (and winning). He wants to bulk up so that he weighs in at 175 cut. He's currently 175lbs with approx. 16% bodyfat. When he competes he is usually around 10% bodyfat. So through calculations, he wants to put on approx. 10 lbs of muscle. How much should he be eating?

Based on 20 cal/lb of weight, I estimated around 3500 cal/day.
How does 25%P/55%C/15%F sound for a ratio? I got that ratio from a Weider book on nutrition for bodybuilders.

Sorry I meant 30/55/15...my bad.

What kind of competition is he winning at 10% body fat? Sounds extremely high for a competitor.
He's 3 time Canadian Natural Bodybuilding Champion.

Why does he let his BF get so high if he is natty? 16%? Also, that doesnt look like very much protein![]()

I don't ask him those questions. Obviously he knows what he's doing if he's winning.

Then why is he asking for diet advice? Just because someone is winning, doesnt mean they know anything. Maybe his competition just sucks.
Who came up with those macros? Or dont you ask that either?
Oh, and give him a pat on the back for me![]()

and how can he just put on 10lbs of muscle?? that will take a good amount of time as a natty. maybe he can hope to put on like 5-6lbs per year.

It's surprising that a 3 time national champ wouldn't know how many calories to eat.Originally Posted by Robin Hood

He usually gets a nutritionist to help him. He's competed in the same weight class for the past 7 years. He won the past 3. And the competition was good. He wants to go up a weight class. He doesn't have time to sit down and do up a meal plan b/c he works his ass off at his job and training. Thought I'd ask for some quick advice.Originally Posted by SlimShady

You got the comments, because you came off as arrogant. I was asking simple questions, to which you replied "He obviously knows if hes winning".

Sorry for coming off as arrogant. I get a bit defensive.
To be honest, I don't know why he lets his BF go so high. What I do know is that when it comes time to cut, he is lean and mean looking. So I don't question his off season tactics. He has taught me a lot of what I know and I'm seeing awesome results. His weakness in bodybuilding knowledge is nutritional requirements and he consults on this. He knows what foods to eat, just not sure how much.
Also, with regards to his BF, he's only had it measured by a hand-held machine and therefore it may be possible that it reads high.

Just a quick question, do any of you who have replied, compete?
