Down another 5 pounds this week!!

Hey guys just thought I'd share and thank you guys for the support I'm down another 5pounds rom last week. I started at 265 and am now at 245 I feel great!! A question though, me and a buddy started at the same time and he was at 305 and is down to 27? don't know excatly but its in th 270's. He has gone on a crash diet only eating 1000 cals a day. When will he stop losing the weight a such a fast pace? We do lots of cardio so could that be keeping him going? He looks like shit though really bags under his eyes and always complaining thats hes tired. I told him about the site but he does't listen he wants to do it the "old fasion way" what else could I do to get him to see the healty side of it? TIA

tell him as soon as he starts eating more than 1000 calories a day the weight is going to pile back on. eating revs the metabolism.....starving the body shuts it down.

How much of that weight loss is muscle? For both you and your friend. As for your friend, eventually his metabolism will slow down enough that he will cease to lose weight. Not only that, but when he starts eating at a higher caloric rate, a lot of what he'll gain will be fat. Starving yourself is not the way to lose weight. You want a slight caloric deficiency, not starvation.

I've tried to tell him but he doesn't listen. As far as fat to muscle weight I don't know yet? I was 26% BF before I started and I'm being measured again in a week. I haven't noticed any loss of muscle mass but I'm sure I've lost some. I figure I can gain it back after I get the gut off

You may want to slow it down, 5lbs a week is a little too much if you ask me. But you won't know for sure until you get tested.

Maybe he's losing LBM and maybe he's just losing fat... no one can tell for sure and it all depends on his BF%. Losing 5lbs/week is not that much if someone is obese.

Like I said I'm not worried about losing LBM right now. I've been at it hard core for two months. I have been avg. about two pounds a week. I started doing longer cardio sessions last week so I think that has something to do with the extra 3lbs this week. I feel great and I'm eating right so I don't feel as if I'm doing it unhealtly. I know my friend however is. Should I cut back on cardio and go back to 20mins 5 days a week, or keep at my new 40mins 5days a week? As I said I'm trying to lose the gut for now the LBM can come later. I hve a fairly muscular build just a huge gut. (Well it has gone down considerably) My goals are 210-215 by June. I don't think thats unreasonaable or unhealty do you? Thanks again!!

Wow, you are doing well. I have read that 2 pounds a week is acceptable (but as a maximum poundage to lose - of course this would vary by BF%; the higher BF%, the more weight you can lose). If you're not feeling at all sick (stomach aches, shits, etc.) then I think you're fine. I actually think what you're doing is good. My senior year in high school I weighed 195 pounds. I dropped that down to 175 in about a month with little stomach problems, but my bench dropped about 10 pounds. I gained the strength back later in the year but lost it again recently (entirely different story dealing with not eating right). Either way, when I dropped that much weight that quick I had some stomach problems. If you're not experiencing any sort of problems then I say you're doing alright, but I definately agree with the other guys that you shouldn't cut your eating too much. Try to just eat healthier instead of less. If I could go back to last summer I would have taken my own advice. Hope that helps. -Kent

Yeah, 5 pounds a week for the first couple may be OK, especially if u r way overweight. Much of the loss will be water retention lost. I think 1000 calories is too low. You are surely to lose muscle which in the long run will slow down your metabolism. If he insists on sticking to it I would at least take a few days off and eat about 3000 calories per day for a few too re rev my metabilism. Ask him for a logical reason why he would want to do it the "old fashioned way" if thats what you call that. Look at everyone who loses weight "the old fashioned way", about 98% of them gain it back. Just a fact.

1 pound per week seems to be the goal if you're in good shape and want to keep LBM.

I printed this out and showed it to my buddy and I think he is starting to see the error of his ways I haven't had any neg. side effects. Only sides effects I've seen is more energy and a flatter stomach Now back to the cardio thing, can anyone answer if that could be the reason for the additional weight loss?

It could be..If your caloric intake is now lower than your caloric expenditure, due in part to the extra cardio, you will drop weight...I personaly find that 5 X wee/ for 40 mins is a tad much and could lead to overtraining if you lift as well, and if you dont, well, say goodbye to at least some lbm.

I agree with this. I'm cutting now and still want to lose some weight but not muscle.

If someone has a very large amount of body fat though, 2-4 lbs a week might be ok.
