    Eggs

I was reading the nutritional facts on the side of the egg carton today and was amazed at how many calories and how much fat (already knew there was a lot of colestoral) there are in eggs. I heard that most of the fat and cholestoral is in the yolk.. anyone know just how much? better yet, does anyone have any info on the nutritional facts EXCLUDING the yolk (large grade A eggs)? I have been eating about 6 eggs a day. How many do you guys tend to eat? And do you guys remove any yokes when making eggs?

Also, the carton says 1 egg has 6g of protein. If I start taking out the yoke, will it be less than 6g? And will the protein vary depending on if I scramble them or hard boil them? Doesn't seem like it should, but I've heard of certain foods losing nutrition if you cook them certain ways.

    Thanks for all help.

All the fat and cholestrol are in the yolk, the whites are fat free and basically just protein. Something like 3.5-4 grams of protein per white.

Does that mean I'm losing protein from tossing the yolks? Because the carton says 6g of protein per egg (not 3.5-4g).

Yes...there is protein but a ton of fat! Just a trade off I guess.

Thanks for the help guys. Does anyone know how this (eating just egg whites and no yolks) affects the calories and other nutritional facts per egg? And how accurate is the 3.5-4g of protein figure for just per egg white (say in grade A large eggs)??

I would like exact numbers if possible, as I am trying to chart food intake by calories, fats, sodium, carbs, dietary fibers, sugars, and protein. I understand that it would vary depending on the size of the eggs, so please also note the size of egg as well. Thanks again for all help.

1 white (on average ) will, as I said, have about 3.5-4 grams protein and about 15 calories, give or take a few. All of the calories are from protein and are such a small ammount that it shouldn't really matter. If you want to make sure you're getting enough protein, play it safe and just go with the 3.5 or 3 grams per white and eat more whites.

Hey thanks Derek. I usually eat around 10 egg whites per day, so the 15 calorie estimate helps me out, considering the whole egg is 70 calories according to the carton (considerably higher). Since I also estimate other food items I consume during the day, the guessing makes my charts more inaccurate and I would like to get them as accurate as possible. So basically, thanks again .

Yep, I count my egg whites as 20calories each and 4g of protein.
