Hey guys. I was just wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions on a diet? Here's my current diet.
Breakfast: Total w/ dried strawberries cereal and I might cut up a banana if we have them.
Lunch: PB+J sammich on wheat bread. Some baby carrots, some granola, maybe an apple or banana, water.
Now, here's the bad thing. School lunch starts at 10am, so by the time I get home 2:30, I'm famished. I have zero will power so I might binge on chips or cookies!! Horrible, I know. Sometimes I'll be smart and reach for a fruit, carrots, or a cheesestick... but they don't satisfy a thing and make me hungrier!
Then I'll do my HIIT cardio, then eat dinner. I try not to eat anything after dinner because I'm afraid I'll be eating too much... but I might have a little salad with oil/vinegar.
So basically, I'm completely lost. I think I'm not eating enough during the day, so I feel hungry and compelled to binge when I come home. I could bring a snack to school and eat it during last period since I don't do anything. Any recommendations?
I just need help. I also have protein powder so I can make a protein shake, but I'm not weight training.
Why don't you eat during school? Pack a cooler if you have to. I'm the fucking tupper-ware king on campus. Ask what's in my bag, I've got a book, a notepad, a pen, and five bins of fucking tupperware. Gotta do what you gotta do.

Hmmm... Age, height, weight and goals would be a good start.
Also - how often do you workout? What do you do and when?

Add protein to this - you need more than carbs. Some cottage cheese and eggs/egg whites or a scoop of protein powder would be good.
I would then replace the total with rolled oats.
The banana is fine.

You want more than just PB + J sandwich. What about protein here too?
You could make yourself a HUGE stir-fry on the weekend and take a tupperware container filled with it for lunch. Something like tuna, steamed vegetables and brown rice - dry fry it in a non-stick pan with soy sauce, garlic, lemon juice and pepper.
An apple is fine here too.

This is because you are not eating enough PROPER food or enough protein early in the day!! Now, when you get home you could make yourself a shake with:
Rolled oats
Skim milk
PB
protein powder
Drink that and munch on some celery - that will fill you up!!
Or make yourself a bowl of oats and have a chicken breast too - some carbs and protein!!
Then I'll do my HIIT cardio, then eat dinner.
You don't eat anything between lunch and dinner??!!
After your HIIT you should really eat something before you have dinner. You should aim to eat every few hours - keeping yourself full with lots of little meals will help stop the big binges!
A small liquid meal such as some protein powder and some skim milk would be perfectly fine here.
I try not to eat anything after dinner because I'm afraid I'll be eating too much...
It is overall calories that count - not how often you eat!
but I might have a little salad with oil/vinegar.
Add some protein to that salad and that is GREAT!! A good example would be some cottage cheese (1%) - The perfect late night snack!
So basically, I'm completely lost. I think I'm not eating enough during the day, so I feel hungry and compelled to binge when I come home.
The solution - EAT BETTER earlier in the day!!!

What I said above - a good breakfast, a good lunch and then just eat something GOOD when you get home.
I just need help. I also have protein powder so I can make a protein shake, but I'm not weight training.
I can certainly try to add more protein in my diet, should I substitute my Total cereal with a Protein shake? A scoop of the powder and milk is about 25g of protein. I could also throw in some fruits in there to make it like a smoothie.
Eating during school is hard. I'm in high school, and I'm not usually hungry before lunch (10am). I'm not too sure if I can add much more protein here. I could bring a cheese stick, which is a little protein, and I could always take a carton of skim milk from the cafeteria, so that's an extra 8g of protein.
The next period, I can't eat because the teacher is an ass like that. The only time I can have a snack is last block because I pretty much don't do a thing, and it'd be a little awkward eating a cup of cottage cheese lol in the library.
And the reason I'm not weight training is because I want to cut. Since it's hard to get into the weight room (it's always full with athletes), I wont have access to the equipment.
I only work out at home when I do my HIIT cardio for 20 min. I heard you're only supposed to do it for 15min. I just started and it really burns me out, I love it. Once I become more accustomed to it I'll add in some strength training just to tone up a bit.

Thanks, again.
Buddy, thats not how it works. Sorry.
First, you're going to need to learn the basics of nutrition. Things such as calories, carbohydrates, protein and fats should be basic knowledge in your repertoir. You're lost and you're not getting results because you're clueless and you don't have a specific goal.
Unfortunatly, I'm lacking time to make a detailed explanation of what you have to do, but I'll sum it up.
1) You're not weight training. You will get NO WHERE without it. If you cut down, you won't be "toned", you'll just be a skinny bastard. Trust me.
2) Cardio is nothing without weight training.
3) Eat MORE OFTEN. Drop the "cheesesticks" and whole-hearty-comfort-home-food and get some real protein sources damnit. A can of tuna won't kill ya.
4) Find some of the nutritional "stickies" such as "guide to cutting/bulking etc" everything should be explained there.

MusclePump, I am going to be doing that soon myself. I don't give two shit what people "think" because it shows the level of dedication you have.
I used to bring a tuna can to my lunch in H.S and open a can and ate it like that. People looked at me wierd, junior year they were asking me how I lost weight and gain muscle..hmm...
artylives76, you need protein and carbs with healthy fats in your diet. I used to buy some peanuts and had it as snack in my locker and a tuna can for lunch. Whey protein is good but you want to get your protein from real food. You need to have a basic understanding of the whole nutrition thing and go from there. Ask questions and then ask some more...

Brother, if you want to put on some mass, you have to eat all the damn time when you're not hungry. It isn't about eating because you're hungry or even because you want to, it's about eating because you HAVE TO to put on the muscle you want. That's all there is to it. I don't do deadlifts until I want to vomit because I always WANT TO, I know there's a barrier I have to break down in order to come back stronger. Just the way it is. Bring protein bars, shakes, hard boiled eggs, chicken, turkey, beef, etc... I break out the grill once or twice a week and pack my cooler up every day with picnic-worthy foods. Right in the middle of a lecture, BOOM! I'm getting my grub on.
Yunier, good for you. Do your thing! It's the way to success. And hey, some of those strange looks are pretty cool to get, eh?

But forgive my ignorance, I just want to lose the flab around my stomach. I don't care if I become a skinny bastard. I'll be going to college in august, and I plan on doing my HIIT until then. Once I'm enrolled, I'll be using the gym and I will have access to equipment. I know its contradicting, and makes no sense to lose weight, then gain muscle, and have to cut again. I'm just tired of feeling my flub. I do have small bags of peanuts, and tuna, so I can always snack on the nuts during school, and eat a can of tuna when I'm home.
I just want to lose the fat, even if it means not gaining ANY muscle mass, it doesn't bother me at the moment. With your help I know I need to make healthier choices, and now I have guidelines as what to eat and snack on during the day. Thanks a lot for the help and info guys!

not only will you not gain main you will most likely lose muscle and trust me i've done what you want to do and its not a good idea. I lost almost all muscle. If you dont put your muscle to use it will breakdown becuse the body feels you dont need. it.
if you are allowed to carry a bookbag, here is what I did. I would carry a can of tuna
2 slices of whole wheat bread or some multi-grain, can opener. During breaks, granted
college is a bit easier. I would truck it to the bathroom open a can of tuna over the
sink and make sure I didn't touch anything. slap it on that bread chomp it down ASAP
and bring some toweletts to clean off the can opener so it wouldn't reak of tuna. Also
I used to use EAS Myloplex and carry a shaker fill it up cold water and make a shake
real quick. Use some hand soap from the bathroom to wash out my shaker so it wouldn't
get all nasty. these are things that don't need to be refrigurated and won't bad throughout the day. Yeah, people would bitch and moan about it but I would tell them
to kiss my a$$. These or some of the things you are going to need to do in order to
get into the shape you want. Your diet right now sux and will do nothing for you besides slow your metabolism down to pretty much non-existant. I am no expert but
I can honestly say that you need to learn your basics and figure out a plan in order
to give your body what it needs to acheive these goals.
p.s. don't worry about what people think when your eating in an akward place. It's
your body not there's after you get ripped getting alot more girls than them you can
rub that in their face.
good luck bud.
on a side note, go to the online journals section and piece together your own diet
from someone that is going for similar goals
You guys are VERY big on the whole tuna thing lol!
Let's just say that I take your guys' advice and make better choices and continue running. Would I see ANY improvements? I mean, cardio is good for the body anyway, so it shouldn't hurt me to do it. It would make sense to see improvements in myself than not seeing any if I ate right and continued running. You make it sound like my efforts aren't going to do anything for me. I mean, if I eat right and run and burn more calories than I take in, I should see some fat loss correct? I just started doing it three days ago so I can't really judge yet. I was very optimistic at first, but now I feel like I should just quit.
So, what your plan is. Eat right and just cardio. Someone told me this along time ago
"say you are shaped like a pear, well with just doing cardio and no weight training,
you will just become a smaller pear"
so the answer is yes, you will loose some fat you will also loose muscle and have no
definition to your body. Also you should not "just quit" no one is trying to bash you
here. Everyone is just speaking from their own personal experiance.
I know you probably don't want to hear this but take a little time and do some reading
on the board here. I know it is alot of info to consume at once but it will start to
all come to you sooner than you think.
this here will give you some examples on what to do while your in the gym.
Cardio will burn fat, but without proper protein and muscular training you're going to burn fat blended with muscle. You'll lose both, you don't want that.
