What are the advantages to a rice cooker over just boiling it in a pan? And what do you guys add to your brown rice?

Rice cookers are fairly idiot proof. You do have to remember to add some water though. You don't have to remember to shut anything off or time it either.

Rice cookers are awesome! When cooking rice, I like to add a little extra water to make the rice more moist (for example, if making 4 cups of rice, I'll bring the water up to the "5" line) -- Although it seems most of the people on this board only eat brown rice, you guys should try mixing white and brown rice together.. at home when we eat rice we will do 4 cups white and 1 cup brown and it tastes great.

I checked the nutritional facts on the white rice compared with the brown and it appears brown rice has 4x everything white rice does, except white rice has no fat and no dietary fibers.

white rice is very high on the glycemic index

most people on the board eat brown rice because it is has more fibre and a much lower GI

i plan on making a big batch of mixed wild/brown rice today, any suggestions on what to add for flavor? veggies maybe? I know alot of people use chicken or vegetable broth to flavor there rice when they are cooking it, but i would like to stay away from all the excess sodium.

Just throw some meat and veggies in there.. I like beef with brocoli (and garlic) or beef with green beans (garlic) -- my mom cooks it .
