Old fashioned rolled oats are good (Quaker is a good, cheap brand. Make sure they are not quick oats).
I also like McCann's Irish Oatmeal and Scottish oats.
I prefer the thicker rolled oats that arent as heavily processed as regular, they come out a little chewer than regular also... very good mixed with oat bran also.
yeah i was thinking about those, but wasnt sure if they had the same qualities as the kind i get ... they are old wessex brand scottish style porridge oats.... 1.29 for a 20oz container... not too bad of a price, but they sell out alot and i have to resort back to the usual quakers.
Since this appears to be such a healthy food on the label, high fiber, no sodium or fat, what does the processing add to it that might make it harmful?
It's because the processing that makes them smaller and quicker cooking that makes them higher on the GI scale that makes them worse. They aren't bad persay but they are a good bit higher than old fashioned oats. O/F don't take that much longer to cook in the microwave.
