    Instant Brown rice.

    The whole grain rice that comes in the sealed packages that you stick in the microwave for 90 seconds and is done and tastes delicious, is it just as good as plain old brown rice?

    No, it's processed and higher GI. Stick with the slow cook. If it's fast and easy it's probably not the best choice.

    Brown rice in a slow rice cooker is AWESOME. However, I use the instant stuff in a pinch. If I just need a cup of brown rice to throw into a meatloaf, it does not make a lot of sense to dig out the rice cooker and use it for an hour just for a cup of rice. If I want brown rice as a side dish and need several cups, the cooker is the way to go.

    Brown rice is a little high on the glycemic index anyway.. there are better choices.

    You need to take into consideration the GL value as well, it's not all about the GI.

    Thats kinda weird. So is it the mass of the food that makes such a difference? Why isnt 50 carbs 50 carbs?

    Food 1 has 50 carbs-a GI of 60, weighing 1/3 pound.
    Food 2 has 50 carbs-a GI of 60, weighing 1/2 pound.

    Food 1 would then cause a more rapid insulin release becuase its 50 carbs are contained in a less dense structure thus becoming a more favorable carb and have a lower Gl?

    If thats the case wouldnt Brown Rice be bad as its calorie dense?

    Because 50G of carbs of a piece of candy is smaller in portion than 50G of carbs of brown rice.

    Brown rice is not very calorie dense at all. 1/2 C. Brown rice is the same as 1/2 C. Oats in the amount of carbs.

    Right so the mass of the food, along with its GI, determines its GL? The greater the mass the lower it goes on the Gl scale?

    My rule is that: If it's instant, it'll instantly get processed by my body. Not good when you're trying to trickle carbs to your body, when you flood it with all those quick carbs your body has to store it someplace like your lovehandles. Just my rule, my opinion.

    I also believe that we all know instinctively that the more natural foods are the better they are for us.
