Yes, but it will be harder to gain muscle while you do that. It's part of bodybuilding for most, a few execptions. Mostpeople gain muscle and fat, then cut.
I've been working out pretty steadily the past 2 monthes, eating a high protein diet.. Even put on a few lbs.. I'm at 152 ish now(from 146..).. I'm noticing more muscle tone, but i also see more fat in my obliques.. I'm starting to get a love handleish appearance on the sides(especially after i eat). Although the front of my stomach isn't to flabby.. is this normal.. would there be any way to shed it w/out losing my muscle and sticking to my high protein diet? Thanks.

And when should one cut?

if you get above 300 lbs, it is definitely time to cut.Originally Posted by AirCartman

You aren't going to get fatter immediately after you eat, thats called food in your stomach, and a little skin stretching from that food in your stomach hanging from the front of your body.

I don't think your body can really gain muscle without holding on to some fat to act as an anabolic aid. I believe the current thought among bodybuilders is not to "bulk" but rather raise your caloric intake slightly to muscle growth while minimizing fat gain.

Seriously. What is your bf%? and are you keeping a close track of your diets cals and macros?
I have no idea what my bf% is.. I should get it checked.. i'm not keeping track of my cal's at all, all i'm doing is eating a lot of protein b/c i want to gain some mass.
You could try a cyclic type diet for a little while - or just sit at maintainence and recompose for a few weeks (say 4 weeks) and then continue to add some more mass.
