    German Food?

I am meeting a few friends at a local German Resturant tomorrow night and wondered if any of you had any clean German food recommendations. The only German food I know that may be acceptable is a plate of saurkraut and I may be wrong on that. I also highly doubt that they have any lean turkey brats on the menu.

    Schweinebraten $12.50
Slow roasted pork roast with fresh herbs and served with spätzle and red cabbage

But ask for veggies instead of pasta. Everything else just looks soooo bad.

I was just looking at that and telling myself that maybe I can substitute the spatzle(pasta) with sauerkraut. What's the verdict on sauerkraut? Yay or Neigh? I believe it is on the .. ahem .. fibrous veggies list...

I was also thinking of this:

    Steamed Mussels "Pepper Pot" $8.75
Weiss bier, tomatoes, garlic, and red chilis

That or the oysters. Good Protein right?

    Thanks for takin' a look.

Mmmm... Sauerkraut is gooooood! Sometimes they do make it tooo sour though. it has to be adjusted to the individual. It is an acquired taste.

Wiess Bier is german wording for "Wheat Beer". Should be OK if it's just cooked with it eh? Kind've like cooking wine. Or is that a no-no too?

Not really a good choice. Go for the pork instead or ask them to make it without the beer.

LOL, I had a feeling I'd have to ditch the mussels. I'll go with the pork with substituted sauerkraut or veggies. I may also have the:

Cucumber Salad, Carrot Salad, and White Cabbage Salad
    $3.50 small, $6.00 large
With baby greens tossed in our herb vinaigrette

but with plain balsalmic vinegar instead of herb vinaigrette. Can't ever go wrong with a salad. Tho' it may be too much food.

Thanks for the help Jodi, it is appreciated!

Now we just have to get you accustomed to some sauerkraut!

weiss bier is just a wheat beer.

makes it appear a lot clearer/lighter than normal beers.

being german it is also to be in the vein of a pilsner style beer

I actually ended up getting something that wasn't listed on the online menu....

Pan seared Salmon with sauerkraut and red cabbage. With a swiss salad. It was sooo good.
