why don't you just eat more in the day time. good sleep is important and you won't get that if you're waking up all the time.
I cant seem to get past 190lbs so I figure I must not be getting enough calories. I am now going to try an experimental routine for the next 2 months. Im going to wake myself up every 2 hours during the night and eat 500-1,000 calories.
Does anyone else do this? Does it work?

I don't wake myself. When I do happen to wake up in the middle of the night I try to get up and slug down a protein shake. Its easy and a great time to drink one.
This way I will be able to eat 6,500 calories every 24 hours instead of 4,000.Originally Posted by stu21Ldn

If you haven't gained weight then just add 500 cals not 2500. A pound a week is fine, atleast you know your not gaining a bunch of fat. Just increase cals by 500 at a time until you start gaining.
exactly, dont eat during the night, before you go to bed, down a cup or two of cottage cheese and youll be golden. just eat more during the day if you arent gaining, but dont add a lot, and keep it clean with that much intake!
it's a good idea if u want to get fat and torture yourself with no sleep!
sleep is just as important in growth as adequate nutrition.
If you eat something with a decent content before bed, you should be fine... I would grab something with all three macro's. The carbs can actually be REALLY helpful in replenishing liver glycogen before you sleep (and this is not only highly anabolic, but is anti-catabolic too). You would also want some fibre and fats (to slow digestion) and, of course, your slow digesting protein.
So something like oats with cottage cheese, walnuts/linseeds, skim milk and berries would be a good example.
But, if you are really motivated then, if you HAPPEN to wake up during the night (eg: to use the bathroom), you can just make sure you have something easy on hand to chug down without disrupting your sleep too much (eg: a shake and some nuts).

cutting sucks.
i thought 1lb was 3500 cals. that's why i said 500 a day x 7 = 3500

I would interfere with your sleep schedule to get in more cals. now if you happend to be up to go to the bathroom there is surely no problem with dowining a quick protein shake, etc.Originally Posted by CancerNV

I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.
3500kcals is a lb of fat, not muscle.Originally Posted by DimebagDarrell
Muscle takes between 600-800kcals to synthesise, so you don't *need* 3500kcals extra a week.
But yeah, some people have metabolims that just piss through whatever you give it, so need loads more calories.
