ideas for a good first meal on the run that doesn't cost too much?

Ok, I have a problem with my first couple of meals a day. A lot of people advocate things like egg whites and oats, and stuff like that, but what do you do if you don't have the time in the morning to make your own meal? Plus a lot of diets call for something like 10 egg whites plus whatever...do you know how much it would cost to get 10 egg whites at like a bagel store???

So anyway, I have been experimenting with drinking a protein shake for breakfast and all, but somehow it doesn't feel right. Besides I think I drink like 3 shakes a day as it is, I think it may be a little too much....

I need to know what are some really good, and most importantly, INEXPENSIVE meals that I can buy at a store on the way to work in the morning? Cause right now I am alternating between drinking a 40g protein, 50g maltodextrin shake and a bagel or two for meal #1 and #2 and somehow, I don't think it is a good idea to continue that, lol

    Thanks

Not the answer you're looking for but can't you just get up 10 minutes earlier to cook your eggs and oatmeal. Really, it doesn't take very long, 6 mins total in the am to cook my breakfast, prob 1 min prep and 3 mins to scoff it down!

Make a shake. Oats+protein powder+fats+fruit+skim milk or water (depending on what you need). In a blender. Blend into a smoothie and drink.

can you give me an example of something with all these ingredients that would actually taste good? I wouldn't know how much or what of each ingredient to put in and then it would probably taste like shit...

Volumes will depends on what your cals for the day call for. My everyday breakfast used to be:
    250ml skim milk
    125ml oats
    1apple or pear (cored)
    1scoop whey (any flavour)
    1tbsp flaxmeal

The flaxmeal has a bitterish taste. In time you will get accustomed to it. But you could use another fat source. You need to calc your macros and cals for the day and see how much you would need for this meal. Since it is the first meal of the day, try keep it highest in carbs.

No, dont expect it to taste like a McFlurry, but in time you will get used to it. If it feels a bit 'grainy', let it stand for 15-20 mins before you have it. This will soften the oats a bit.

    1 cup raw oats
    1-2 TBSP Natty PB
    40g Protein Powder
1/2 banana or a cup of yogurt
    1 cup Milk
    1 cup cold water

All in a blender, mix it up for 30 sec. Tastes good, quick to make and very healthy for you. Cheap also.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...

    thank you guys...

one more thing...since these shakes would primarily be "liquid" is there any problems with having say, something like this for breakfast at like 7:30 aM and then around 10-10:30 have another protein and carb drink, then lunch at around 12:30? That would be 2 liquid "meals" before the first solid meal. In terms of calories and nutrition I am sure they both cover it quite well, but does the consistency of the food make a difference?

I do the same thing! It's the best. Ever try it with Sly protein pudding instead of CC yogurt? Also very tasty.

Reply to Dante's quick breakfast, oats, whey, fiber one, and carb countdown yogurt. Cook Oats w/ fiber one and whey. Then add Vanilla sly protein pudding w/a few berries and sf maple syrup. Super fast! Also very tasty w/the yogurt.
Ever mix CC Yogurt w/ cottage cheese? Great for last meal.

Not on the subject herewith, but Kerry, I just have to say how much I love reading Rod's Views....the most hysterical writing I think I've ever read in my life. He should write a monthly article for Oxygen or M&F.....definitely worth sharing!!!

I agree with the hard boiled eggs, its a great way to save time. I also have a trick, I have an old squeeze bottle I saved from some mayo, and I put all my ingredients for tuna salad in there, so I can make a can of tuna salad whenever, without even dirtying more that a disposable cup and spoon.
