I was kidding....I did the low fat diet and I looked like sh-t , for me the low carb ( 200 or so) and medium fat 80 or so works best.

Try to figure your protein and fats by bodyweight
Then adjust carbs to your weight loss. so-
Not losing-Decrease carbs
Losing too fast-Increase Carbs

100 grams a fat (.43 g/p)
400 grams protein(1.7 g/p)
175 grams carbs to get 3200

I calculated it higher on the protein side because that seemed to be important in both of your example diets.

You need at least 100 grams of fat if you weigh 235.

Good luck

Not saying your selection is wrong, because I think both may work, but healthy fats (flax oil, fish oil) can actually help increase metabolism. I was going to say 1, now you have me second guessing myself.

More important - what is your lean body mass??... Total weight means nothing - you could be calculating for 50-100 pounds of un-active blubber...

How did you come up with the figure of 3200 cals? This is is a LOT of cals for someone trying to lose weight... And 400g of protein is a little overkill too (unless you are somehow hiding about 260 pounds of lean mass in your 235 pound body! ) ...

Anyway -
I would do protein @ 1.5g/pound lean mass
Fats at something around 0.4-0.45g/pound lean mass
Then fill in your calories with carbs.

But if you are rather carb insensitive then something where you started carbs at ~1 x lean mass (with a higher fat level) could be needed... Although I don't like to go above about 0.6g/pound lean mass.

So, if your BF% was 20% then your lean mass is only ~190 pounds. Which means your cal requirement would be better off starting at about 2800 cals.

And your requirements would be something like:
1.5 x lean mass = 280g protein (1120 cals)
0.45 x lean mass = 75-85g fats (675-770 cals)
Rest in carbs = ~250g carbs (1000 cals)

OR:
1.5 lean mass = 280g protein (1120 cals)
1 x lean mass = 200g carbs (800 cals)
Rest in fats = 95-100g fats (880 cals)

Personally - I would go for something like:
280g protein
75g fats
250g carbs

to start and then decrease carbs if required.

(ps: this is assuming your BF% is about 20%...)
