Refeeds on your off day?
I just read the sticky on Refeeds and Leptin and found it very informative, but I would like to know if it's a good idea to do a refeed on an off day.
For some reason, it doesn't seem like a good idea, but I figured I'd ask the experts first. |

I've read that for optimal glycogen replenishment, one should avoid working out on those days, but I think most would find it hard to stay out of the gym (like myself)

Well, I'm thinking about refeeding only because I've hit a slump w/ my weight loss. I'm doing cardio 5 days per week and eating pretty clean, but the scale just isn't moving fast enough for all of the cardio I'm doing. I think my body is going into starvation mode.

You don't mention how much you are actually eating. You can be living off broccoli, oats and egg-whites, but if you are eating too much and have very little muscle mass then you will not be losing weight. You also do not mention if you are doing weights at all - this is one of the more important factors when dieting because it will help maintain your metabolism and prevent muscle loss while dieting. Refeeds are not that beneficial for people who have a higher bf% - and can actually send then backwards. This is because the hormonal problems associated with dieting that require refeeds are not usually seen unless you are getting pretty lean, or, unless you have been long-term LOW CAL (and usually low carb) dieting. Overweight people also have poorer nutrient partitioning - so they eat up and it spills into fat stores very easily. For most people who are dieting stalls are usually just due to eating too much or doing too little... |
