the no-carbs shouldn't effect him at work but he should at least be doing a TKD so that he has sufficient energy for training. the body can't metabolize suffient FFA's to support high intensity training sessions.Originally Posted by bullet 29
hey guys just need a little feedback for a buddy of mine that just started training with me. were going on a extreme cutting phase and ive laid out some ground work for him. ive ben training for about 10 years, certified through ace and acsm.
he currently works for me serving tables every day at night for 5 hours. we work out 5 days a week (primarily 1.5 hours ).
he has this nocarb-low carb atkins philosiphy that he wont kick.
he wants to shoot for about 10-15 carbs a day and still function at work and the gym.
i dont personally agree with an aggressive atkins diet while trainig real hard and ive explained to him the idea of short term energy and so forth but if anyone could give some feedback as to the importance of clean carbs even when cutting it would be great. the carbs will be cut back but not at a gross amount of 15grams per day.
a split ratio would be great 60/20/20 50/30/20 or anything would be helpful.
ive done his bmi and hes pushing 24% bf. im at around 13% pics in my post are somewhat recent.
thanks for any help. maybe if it cpomes from others it will be taken a little more seriously.

I agree with LAM. the no carb diet is not the way to go if you are planning on doing a training program. I hate dieting on low or no carbs.

thanks lam, but unfamiliar with TDK?
and do you think 15 grams of carbs is really enough to fuel someone through a 13 hour day of pretty active activities?
i got certified over 10 years ago and thought maybe things had changed but all my clients in the past complained of fatigue, headaches, depression, when they tried to low-no carb more than a few weeks.
thanks funk hes reading these as they come up
thanks bullet

When I do the Atkins diet I eat 40 grams a day the first week only, then jump up to 120 grams. I believe that you need about 100 grams of carbs for proper brain function ( have to look this up to be sure).Originally Posted by bullet 29

i agree foreman, my clients would complain of headaches dissiness and a total lack of concentration with work school and so forth. i dont think a drop in any of the big 3's (protein fat carbs) for more than a few weeks is healthy.
we are doing a cutting cycle but even with that the jump in cardio and added burn on the little carbs in our diet would be unhealthy especially if no-low carbs were a addition.
thanks bullet

different people can tolerate no/low carb diets better than others. personally I can go down to 50 grams a day with no side effects and still function.Originally Posted by bullet 29
