I was reading Jodi's stickies, and I saw her recommendations for bulking and cutting based on a person's bodyweight. Using a 40/40/20 PCF split, for a 200# man bulking:
1lb 93/7 ground beef
1 can fat free refried beans
4 canned whole white potatoes (diced)
8 whole wheat tortillas
Mixing the first 3 ingredients up and making 8 burritos and eating them throughout the day yields: 2100 calories, 52 g Fat, 286 g Carb, and 158 g Prot.
I realize that more protein is needed, but would the above recipe act as a good primary food source throughout the day? I really cant stand chicken breasts or rice, but I love mexican food, and this appears to be a good mix based on the stickies, Any comments?
No veggies, refried beans (at least use black beans), no healthy fats, not enough calories (especially for a 200 lb. guy on a bulk), canned potatoes (barf), etc. Emma will take care of this.
A good solid breakfast with oatmeal and egg whites.
A well balanced dinner with vegatables
And the typical supps (multi-vit, whey protein, and fish oil caps)
yes, but cats and other animals aren't as accustomed to variety as humans are. You won't be able to withstand an 8 burrito a day diet for more than 2-3 days.
Sorry, I guess there is a bit of humor in me that doesnt come out in text. By "cats" I was referring to people.
The fact is my diet is shit, and Ive finally decided to get it in order, but the normal things that are eaten, I just couldnt see eating all day long. So I tried to find a good mix of what was being talked about and applied it to foods that I really do enjoy, and wouldnt mind eating all day everyday. To say Ill burn out in 2-3 days remains to be seen.

Well your diet doesn't really need to be bad. Is beef the only kind of meat you like? How about salmon/white fish/lean cuts of pork/handfuls of almonds/tuna to get some protein. Heck, make a steak and brush it with some olive oil and put some pepper and chopped almonds all over it (haven't tried that but I bet it'd be good). Tuna's always good..be creative and buy up lots of veggies and make yourself a good tuna salad with an olive oil/vinegar dressing. The possibilities are endless, but the fact is, it's definetly going to be difficult to maintain a diet consisting mostly of burritos. In addition to your protein, you need lots more vitamins and antioxidants coming from vegetables (mushrooms, green peppers, broccoli...make yourself one hell of an omelette in the morning).
In my honest opinion, in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle you need
1. Diet
2. Training
3. Supplements
^in that order. Only when you have your diet totally in check should you be thinking about supplementing with whey and other supplements.

Not really more that I can add... That pretty much sums it up!
You could:
Swap at least half of the beef (high in saturated fats) for a leaner meat (eg: substituted in some tuna or egg whites) and then added in olive oil/avocado/nuts to increase your fats again (but make them healthy).....
Add in 0.75 to 1 cup of vegetables for each 'burrito' (make it a mix of fresh stuff too)....
Make your own bean mix - use kidney beans, lentils, chick-peas instead of re-fried beans (Add some seasoning and onions to flavour it if you want).
Use fresh yams (or sweet potato) instead of the canned potato (or at least use REAL potato)....
Combine it with a good breakfast (oats, flax, protein, fruit, milk), a good PWO shake (whey, carb of choice + banana), a decent dinner (best if it had some omega-fats and vegetables: eg - salmon and vegetables) and supplement with fish oils (6-10g a day)....
Then it would be looking better and would be a lot healthier for you...

Also - I don't follow the diet 'ratio' idea. I don't agree with it at all. Base your macronutrient intake on your lean mass, your goals, your insulin sensitivity and your activity level. Don't base it on your calorie intake.
It's all about what you want. I have made 4 of my meals 99% fatfree chicken brest, brown rice and veggies for the last 7 months. The other two meals one being a shake and the other being 12 egg whites and a cup of dry oats. I eat this 7 days a week. So my answere to you ? NO......Disipline my friend is what it takes.

I don't think eating chicken, or tuna or whatever type of meat you choose nonstop for 4 meals a day for 2 months, 6 months, 10 years or however long, is an example of discipline. I think it's ignorance. You are essentially oblivious to the fact that variety exists. I love fat free chicken breast, brown rice and veggies, but if I ate it 4 times a day, I probably wouldn't. Maybe your above actions are an example of perseverence but I sure don't see discipline in there. Discipline is shown through the maintenance of a structured healthy diet, not by the method of eating the same meal 4 times a day, because while chicken and brown rice is undoubtebly healthy, there sure are many substitutes for it that are equally as nutritious and beneficial.
