Is tuna bad for you ??

Hey guys, I gota question I had a discussion with a friend today about tuna. I eat about 4-6 cans of tuna a day ( Am 200 pounds and about 13% bf, for those of you who know me, ive been in this sport for a few years now). Anyway he said that eating this much tuna a day is not good becasue of mercury consumption. I know to much of a good thing can be bad but I dont think that up to 6 cans of tuna could acctually be bad, or could it? what do the pros in here think about that one ?

Well it also depends what kind of tuna is it? Chunk light has like 1/3 of the mercury that Albacore contains. I think 4-6 cans/day is kinda obsessive. I don't know if I really believe in all the mercury claims, but I wouldn't take a chance having that much tuna a day. Besides...It's better if you vary your protein sources up a bit. Why not through in some eggs, chicken breast, lean beef, turkey, cottage cheese, whey powder?

oh i do, i mix it up good, i work 4 days a week so i eat tuna in the morning, protein shake and oat meal ( 2 times a day). Before work i have something with few more carbs, to give me some extra energy. Then at work i bring me some steak or chicken with rice or someting else.....and then at night when i come home i ussually have some more tuna ( i eat starkist light tuna in water)....but when i am off on the weekends i eat a lot more tuna (i dont really feel like eating much because of this freaking heat, so i get me a can of tuna (or two) and wash it down with water, and have some good carbs or something...............So I know what you are talking about. Thanks for the help in diet. Anyone else know something about my friends claim ?

My personnal experience about tuna is that I ate tuna like you for 5-6 cans a day for about 9 months. Before this, I ate 2-3 cans a day and I did this for 1 year.

Now, that is an OPINION, but I think mercury level could have done some damage to me, since Im always tired, 1 of the possible symptoms of too many mercury in my system. I don'T know if this is true, but now I don't take any chances, and replace tuna with others sources of protein.

One thing you could do is to go to the hospital and do some blood and urine test to detect the presence of mercury in your system. You would have a specific answer to your question.

There is metal in the tuna that you need to be aware of (Mercury). So, I wouldn't eat that much tuna if I where you. How the heck can you eat that much tuna?

everyone has different goals, my goal is not to be a pro bodybuilder or to be a huge cut mountian. My goal is to simply to stay in a good shape like i am right now and to even condition myself better. I wanna be able to run after someone when i need to and also be strong enough to use physical force when I need it. The look that you get from weight lifting is just a good side effect. Not that I dont understand you people in here, I am just as much in love with bodybuilding as the rest of you, I just have different goals, and priorities.
