im 16 and have been going to the gym daily, either for cardio or weights. ive already lost 25 pounds, but the last 20 are proving to pose a problem i was wondering what the best cardio workouts/supplemtns i could use to help me lose weight safely. are supplements like lipo-6,hydroxy cut, thermalean and Rev safe for a 16 year old? and are they available in canada? also, what are EFA's and can i use them for weight loss? thanks alot all.
It takes time man. You should only look to lose 2 pounds of FAT a week. Im sure you dont just want to lose "weight" which could constitute water weight (which fluctuates and will gain back) and lean muscle mass, which you DONT want to lose.
Losing weight has a lot of stress on diet/nutrition. You should consume around 1800-2000 calories a day, and keep working on your cardio. Dont starve yourself. Eat 5-6 meals a day to keep your metabolism going and not go into starvation mode. 1 pound of fat has 3,500 calories, so you want to have a 3,500 calorie defecit in that week, or up to 7,000 for 2 pounds, more than that, and youre not just losing fat weight.
I wouldnt recommend any supplements such as hydroxy because you are only 16 and still growing, and because you should only need to focus on your diet, and cardio.
If you have been dieting for a long time, you should ease up for a few weeks and give your system a break. Just eat healthy and try to hold your current weight.
Not necessary to go for suppliments. A good diet with a good training program will work. So long as you dont overdo either/both.
EFA = Essential Fatty Acids. They are fats that your body needs. Dont be afraid of fats. You body needs some fats to function.
Study the sticky 'guide to...' this will give you great info on sorting your diet as well as explain EFA's to you.
What is your height/weight? I also wouldn't advise taking those supps if you are only 16 - you could try green tea extract and maybe caffeine which would be ok, imo. But I would caution against losing too much weight at your age - you may still be "growing into" your body and as you get taller the weight will spread itself out.
even on a weight loss plan i wouldn't be going to the Gym "daily" as you have said.
another angle to losing weight (i'm assuming you mean FAT weight) is to build muscle & you WON'T do that by training & doing cardio EVERY day.
re:diet. just don't go crazy on junk food. Psch91 has good advice. and DON'T get caught up in the supplement thing. save your money.................................or buy FOOD!!!
At your age, just eat healthy, use your common sense. Just be generally active. Don't obsess about trying to shed down to single figure bodyfat. Just be healthy and it'll workout all good.
Thanks eveyrone for the support. im about 5'10 220. i GUESS ill have to take it slowly...its just i want to get rid of all this disgusting fat lol :P but ill just take it slow. i also read some good info by Covert Bailey about exe2rcising anaerobicly and areobicly. i used to just run on the treadmill to exhuastion, as the caloreis were constantly going up. little did i realize i was actually burning off glycogen and sugars as oppose to mainly this useless fat. so it would be bad to do 30-40 minutes of aerobic exercise a day? because i dont want to hit a plateua or do anything to prevent me from being thinner... what would be the best cardio/weight trianing split i could be doing? the guy at the gym said i burn about 2300 calories and about 24 %bf. (thought it might help).
p.s its SO damn hard to miss the Lipo 6 and Hot-Rox Advertisements in Muscle and Fintess!!! lol. thanks again all.

heehee, most Gym Instructors have text book knowledge & no real experience.
i say most but there are a few good ones out there. just make sure he can back up his comments with something other than what the teacher told him or that he read out of a book.
and for Gods sake don't take any notice of adds in magazines. use the SEARCH button & save your $$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!
Theres a fine line between loosing weight and loosing fat. A lot of pple do way too much cardio in my opinion. sure they loose weight, but along with it, muscle. For the most part, eatting right is the most basic and effective of them all. The rest is just training and listening to your body.
thanks for the advice all. the reason i belive the trainer is because he set me up to this machine thing where he attached sticky things on my feet, hands, legs, wrist and chest :P lol so i hope its not all for show. and i was also thinking, i REALLY love the eliptical machine, as it is the most efficient fat burner in my experience, and its the easiest on my body. would it be bad to do it 3-4 times a week ? i read that its alot easier to not hit your "plateau" if you mix up your exercise...thanks.
