    Raw Oats

Is there any benefit or problem with eating raw oats? I grind up 1.5 cups of oatmeal into a powder and then blend into my shakes. I assume its not unhealthy but wanted some opinions. I find its easier to eat 1.5 cups this way because when I cook it it turns out to weigh so much that I have a hard time eating it and my eggs etc...

You wind up raising the GI by turning them into flour. Oats are medium GI to start with so depending on your needs or the timing of your shake, this may or may-not be a good thing.

    Otherwise it's fine.

Raw oats, as long as they are rolled and not whole oats (or scotch oats) are fine.

Read this or this. And look [url=http://www.foodsubs.com/GrainOats.html=here[/url] for the oat types.

And in terms of GI - yes, grinding will increase the GI, but if you are combining the oats with some fats and protein, then the effect of grinding it is not going to be too much of a problem. Esp. if you already have food in your intestines.
