I would suggest getting the bags of frozen fruit from Sams or Costco. They are pre sliced and mixed, ready to roll. Even when frozen, they are still pretty good.

The key to freezing fruit is to get it as cold as possible first. That way the freezing process is faster, meaning small ice crystals, meaning less damage to the fruit. If not, it will be very mushy when if thaws. The pre-frozen stuff is likely frozen with dry ice (lower temp), and when it thaws it is still not too far from fresh consistency.

Frozen fruits are great for shakes.

Got a question about freezing bananas though, does anyone do it? If so, do they taste fine? I ask because I tried to do it once before and they turn brown, and yes, that is with the skin peeled. They didn't look good when I was ready to use them so I just tossed them out.

If you are really interested in doing this, either get or reference the book "Stocking Up" by Carol Hupping and the Staff of the Rodale Food Center. This book is the Bible on how to freeze, can, dry, pickle etc. just about every whole food on the planet. It also gives good tips on steps to take for preserving nutrients. It costs $20 U.S. and will pay for itself many times over. I own it and highly reccomend it.

I freeze them all the time and they have never turned brown on me. I just peel them, cut them in half, put them in a freezer bag and pull em out whenever I need some. They help add thickness to your shakes when they are frozen.

I freeze nana's and eat one every day (mix it through my oats in the morning.... mmmmm... banana cinnamon oatmeal... ).

Freezing them makes them really sweet (like all fruit...). I just take one out every evening and leave it in the frigde in a little container because when they thaw a little water and juice is released - and this is were a lot of the sweetness is.. So I then just mash these together!

Adding the nana's still frozen to shakes is also really good - because along with having that added sweetness, like ice it makes the shakes really thick and frothy!
