Is cycling Carbs the answer for an overweight WIMP??

Hi everyone. I am new to the board as well as the weight lifting scene. I searched alot and read up my articles, so i have a decent amount of knowledge. I am currently 20 years old, 180 lbs, and as weak as a 12 year old girl.
I was actually over 200 lbs, but lost about 25 lbs on a ketogenic diet. Over the past 2 weeks, i have been attempting to workout, but it has not been going too well. I barely benchpress 85 lbs. I am still on the ketogenic diet, so that may be hurting me. I also thin i lsot alot of my muscle mass when i lost all that weight. I was always weak, but 2 years ago i could atleast put up 100ish. I guess i should stop this ketogenic diet if i want to gain mass, but i am very afraid of gaining fat. I still have alot of fat to lose, but right now muscle gain is more important.

Do you think cycling carbs is the best route for me? I read Twin Peak's writeup, and also read another one that had 5 low carb days and 2 high carb days. I am not sure what to do.

I also ordered creatine ethyl ester (the kind that doesnt not need sugar to dissolve and includes no carbs). I have also ordered Isopure zero carb protein. Should i try these 2 products on my ketogenic diet, or should i switch it up?

any input would be great, Thanks.

    No harm in trying it.

But I think the ideal start for you would be something Iso-caloric, or close to those ratios... and just start working on healthy eating habits. Train hard and an adequate amount of calories and you will be impressed with your results

Since when did open chat cross over to the other forums? I find these sorts of comments annoying when someone is actually looking for help around here.

In my opinion, it wouldn't hurt to try carb cycling, however, I wouldn't. I would try to develop a healthy routine eating habit first. Once you nail that down, then perhaps look into carb cycling for the future. It sounds like your diet may need some work, as you said you had lost a lot of muscle while cutting weight. Post your diet and you will receive plenty of input.

    Bump to this advice.

Start with a sensible, simple diet. Leave the complex stuff till you actually need it.

Yes, I know im pathetic. Thanks for reminding me. This is why I am trying to change.

Right now im on a ketogenic diet so I basically eat little-no carbs.

Mornings i eat 2-3 eggs with cheese, vegetables.
Lunch i eat chicken (not just breast, all parts) with some vegetables.
Then i eat about 2 or 3 more meals which are either tuna, salmon, hot dogs if im lazy.

It isnt exactly the best diet for working out, but it helped me lose alot of weight.

Now i need to switch to a more balanced diet. I am just not sure how to go about it. I just really dont want to gain any more weight in fat. And as you all know, If i dont gain some muscle soon 12 year olds will start beating me up lol

There's nothing wrong with carbs, they are not the enemy.
Tons of simple sugars and saturated/trans fat is the real enemy!

Keeping in mind that i just got out of a ketosis diet, i dont think i should jsut throw carbs back into my diet normally. I really dont know how to go about doing this...

Don't worry about bench pressing 85 pounds. Who cares. We all start somewhere.

You need carbs though. That is where the energy comes from that is needed to lift weights. You need to get on a real, normal calorie deficient diet and do a real cut. Don't be surprised if you gain a bunch of weight right off the bat as your body rebuilds it's glycogen stores.

Not a bad idea azn!! For starts how strict were you on the Keto diet? Did you consume any sort of carbs at all; veggies for instance? If so, how often did you eat them? Could you give us a run down on what you have been eating along with your training reg., so we may go from there.

And don't be afraid to gain a few pounds, after all your strength will increase in aid of the added calories and if your training is right on the extra water weight consumed from eating carbs will go to the muscles giving you a buffed appearance versus going to the subcutaneous skin giving a smooth appearance.

This is fun stuff. Be happy you have reached this level. You have lots to be grateful for. Youre in good hands

the general consensus for training while on a keto type diet is to do a full body routine 3x a week.

what is your training routine ?
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Robyne: I was on a pretty strict ketogenic diet, but i did have some good carbs. During the day, i would eat about a cup of salad vegetables like lettuce/cucumbers which are very low in carbs. I would eat other low carb veggies such as broccoli, spinach, tomatoes sparingly. Basically it was 50% fat, 40%protein, 10% carb. I know it doesnt sound healthy, but hey it worked for me. Lost almost 30 lbs.
Things i mainly ate were eggs, chicken, beef patties, tuna, salmon, shrimp...basically all meat. So my protein was pretty high and i guess my fat was up there too

Lam: My workout schedule is kind of wierd. I wokrout with my friend who is actually pretty big, so i dont know if i should follow the same routine as him.

    We do Day's 1, 2, and 3. Mon-Fri is 1,2,3,1,2

    Day1 is chest/back
    Day2 is arms: biceps/triceps
    Day3 is legs and shoulders

i will try to run on sat/sun and one of the weekdays

thanks alot for the help guys!!
And If you guys have any tips on which carbs to introduce first, please let me know.

    thanks again.
