    All You Can Eat

Hi everyone, I'm new here, but have a quick question.

What's the general attitude regarding All You Can Eat dinners? Obviously you wouldn't be having them everyday, but perhaps once every 2 weeks or once a month. Is it bad to have a sudden surge of food in the system? Would the body benefit from the extra protein and vitamin intake?

For me personally, i try and eat smaller meals more frequently because I dont want the large stomach associated with massive eating.

However, occasional feasts are fine. I do it whenever I go to a buffet/all you can eat but generally keep up my small and frequent diet.

    hope that helped

It depends what your goals are, if your trying to lose weight then obviously an all you can eat meal is probably not a good idea.

as a cheat meal(s) its fine once in a while. If you're cutting you may want to cut those types of cheats down, if you're an ecto you may even want to increase the frequency of these days as many ecto's complain of not being able to eat enough to gain weight.

I'm not sure that there would be too much benefit from the surge of protein since only so much can be utilized at one time. If you are cutting, an all you can eat dinner will probably set you back some, since the key to a good cheat meal is moderation and it is said that you should still try to fit your cheat meal into your set total daily calorie intake so that overall calories are close to that of your regular plan.

However, I definately hit up the buffets every so often anyway, because you gotta live life.

When I was 6% body fat year round, about every week we would go to an all you can eat pizza joint and I would eat till I was about to puke. It never made me gain any weight....I actually think its good to eat one huge high calorie meal once a week if you are on a strict diet!

Mmmm..all you can eat pizza. What a concept. I still go to buffet-style places once in awhile. But even if I wanted to eat a lot, my appetite is a lot smaller then it was several years ago.

Only in the U.S......all you can eat places' customers are like cattle slowly grazing over food pastures. I'm sure a lot of us bulking love these places, but the majority of people who eat there are obese.

If people want to eat there then they can eat there...

In terms of the impact on you - eating huge meals like this occasionally is neither going to do you any harm nor provide you with any real benefits.

Excess protein and vitamins are just that - excess - so you are going to pee them out/use them in gluconeogenesis. After you reach your requirements more is not better.

Any 'refeed' effect would not really be all that marked as you need to re-feed for a good few hours for that to occur... But you would get a metabolic up-regulation as your body burnt through a bit of that meal (it would not last).

Psychologically would probably be the best impact - although if you were the kind of person who would beat yourself up about eating out of your diet then even then it would not offer you anything.

For harms - well, you are not going to gain a huge amount of weight for a one off thing (or even an occasional thing) but doing it too frequently would probably have negative physique impacts for most people.

I doubt I would be mentally able to consume 3 pounds of raw salmon or pizza every day. Sushi and pizza are delicious, but not when you binge every day. Thanks for the advice guys, now I can truely enjoy this neutrally-impacting meal.

all you can eat is fine, but the other day i went to a 'all you can drink' event...
needless to say that i went hard out and possibly destroyed about 2 weeks of workouts! but i had a freakin blast.
